About Me
Hello there - my name is Merle (I usually go with “Melly” - much easier to pronounce). I run my Ofsted registered Childminding Business called "Boots and Roots" just outside of Whitchurch in a beautiful village near Calverhall.
At Boots and Roots, I believe every child is unique, deeply valued, and worthy of love, belonging and the opportunity to thrive.
My approach to childcare is rooted in both professional knowledge and real-life experience. With a background in Family and Child Psychology (MSc with honors), experience in clinical and research settings, and as a mother myself, I understand how important the early years are in shaping healthy development, secure relationships and confident curious minds.
I am passionate about creating a calm, nurturing and enriching environment where children feel safe, seen and supported as they learn through play, connection, exploration and everyday experiences.
At the heart of Boots and Roots is one core belief: when children are given warmth, understanding, security and the right opportunities, they can truly flourish.
At Boots and Roots Childminding, I aim to provide a screen-free environment where children can learn through play, nature, creativity and real-life experiences. I have created a robust curriculum in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Framework (EYF) which underpins our daily activities and leaves plenty of space for individual adjustments, child-led play, relaxation and fun outings.

My Experience
I have over 10 years of work experience with children and young people, ranging from therapeutic work through my roles as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist, Well-being Coach (Healios Ltd) and Community Therapist (The Children's Society) to person-centred, educational support with SEN individuals (New Directions Ltd).
I hold a first class degree in Applied Psychology as well as a first class Masters degree in Family and Child Psychology.
My professional training includes Draw and Talk Therapy/Sand-play as well as low level CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy). I have had the privilege of working with different families and learned to value and honor the uniqueness and spirit of each family system. I have learned invaluable lessons through my work and feel devoted to making a positive difference to the lives of children and their families.
Above all, I am a mother of two wonderful boys and I understand the emotional roller coaster of navigating parenthood, being a working parent and trying to do what is right for your family.

I completed my BSc in Applied Psychology with a first-class level. The program combined applied psychological research, therapeutic evaluations, research skills and BPS accreditation (British Psychological Society).
