My Experience

During my current job I am a fully qualified nursery practitioner. I have been working in childcare for 3 years (qualified for around 1 and a half years) and volunteered in a childcare setting for 1 year before that. I spent nearly 3 years working with 0 to 2 year olds and coming up to a year working with preschool working with 3 to 5 year olds. I have also spend some time working with ages 7 to 12 years olds in an afterschool setting. I have loved working across all the age groups and getting to experience the different stages and developments. During my day-to-day role I protect and promote the health and wellbeing of the children in my care and ensure safeguarding procedures are being followed. I am a 'key person' to a group of children and promote positive relationships with each child as well as their families. I monitor children's progress to ensure they reach their developmental milestones and targets and enable the children to become more independent. As a 'key person' to a small group of children, I ensure the smooth transition from home to nursery and ensure a bond is built with each child to understand their own interests and passions, enabling myself to then plan and create activities that are tailored to their interests and to ensure the children are kept engaged during each day. I also help to ensure the children are prepared and have the skills to progress into school life.
