Seeking flexible, experienced respite care for my autistic 9-year-old and occasional household help
About Me
I’m a solo mother and full-time unpaid carer, with no family or support network nearby. I’m looking for someone experienced with autistic children who can provide occasional respite and give me some much needed time to rest and recharge.
My requirements are flexible, so please feel free to message me even if your availability doesn’t exactly match the times I have listed. I may occasionally need overnight care in the future, but this would only be by prior arrangement and once a trusting relationship has been established.
Due to a temporary mobility issue, I currently also need some general day-to-day support around the home.
We have two cats, so unfortunately this may not be suitable for anyone with a cat allergy.
My Requirements
My son is 9 and autistic. He is non-verbal, but he communicates what he wants very clearly most of the time! He understands both English and Portuguese.
He has some awareness of toileting, but does still have occasional accidents, so he may need some help with changing and cleaning up when necessary (wipes and gloves are provided). He has limited awareness of danger, so he needs close supervision, particularly when out and about.
He is a clever, cheeky and very happy boy with lots of energy. He enjoys being active and needs someone who is comfortable keeping up with him and keeping a close eye on him.
I also have reduced mobility in my right leg following an accident in March 2026, in which I broke my leg. Because of this, I sometimes need a bit of practical help with things that are more difficult for me physically at the moment.
