El worked with our family for 1.5 months.
We specifically hired El in July with the understanding that she would help Lara transition smoothly from her previous childminder to a new nanny in time for the start of school in September. Our goal was to ensure that by the time school began, Lara would feel comfortable with El and settled in her routine. To support this transition, we paid El even during weeks when her presence wasn’t fully necessary, as we wanted to prioritize Lara’s comfort and stability.
Unfortunately, El chose to resign the Sunday before school started, giving us very little notice, which completely broke the trust we had placed in her. This abrupt decision put our family in a difficult situation at a critical time, forcing us to scramble for alternative care just before the school year began. Additionally, she did not work all of the hours she had been paid for and did not return the money for the unworked time, which we found disappointing and unprofessional.
We also noticed that El was not particularly proactive in planning varied or stimulating activities for Lara. Most days were spent at the playground, and she did not show much interest in finding new experiences or outings that could have contributed to Lara’s growth and development.
While El fulfilled some basic responsibilities, her sudden resignation, lack of initiative in engaging Lara, and failure to return payment for unworked hours left us feeling let down. Future families should be aware of these concerns. I also have reasonable reasons to believe her previous reference is not genuine, but please try on your own risk
