About Me
I am an experienced primary tutor living in the Rayleigh area, specialising in maths and English, with a particular focus on Year 5 SATs preparation. I take a calm, structured approach to learning and pride myself on adapting sessions to suit each pupil’s individual needs.
I am currently working within a primary school as part of the SEND team, delivering individualised interventions and targeted support. This includes identifying gaps in basic number and language skills which may be impacting a pupil’s ability to access current learning.
My approach is centred around strategies such as scaffolding, repetition, and chunking learning into small, achievable steps. I use modelling and worked examples to support understanding, alongside retrieval practice and overlearning to build fluency. Sessions also focus on developing reasoning skills and confidence in applying knowledge, helping pupils feel fully prepared for SATs.
My Experience
I have over 12 years of experience working within primary education and more than 10 years specifically teaching maths and English. Throughout this time, I have developed a strong understanding of the primary curriculum, assessment expectations, and effective strategies for SATs preparation.
My experience includes supporting pupils in developing core maths and English skills, identifying gaps in knowledge, and implementing structured plans to support progress across both core subjects, with a particular focus on supporting Year 5 pupils in building the skills and confidence needed ahead of assessment. Through targeted intervention and a clear focus on fluency and reasoning, I have consistently supported pupils in performing confidently and reaching the expected standard.
I have worked with a wide range of pupils with varying abilities, including those with dyslexia and dyscalculia, providing individualised and targeted support.
