About Me
Hi, I’m Hayley, a single mum to two amazing daughters living in Stafford. I’m looking for a kind, patient and reliable person to support my youngest daughter, Gracie, who is 7 years old.
Gracie is non-verbal autistic with global developmental delay and functions much younger than her age. She is full of personality and enjoys sensory play, water, walks, music and spending time with people she trusts. Once she feels safe with someone, she can be incredibly affectionate and funny.
Gracie also has complex support needs. She communicates through sounds, gestures and by leading people to what she wants. She needs constant supervision as she has no awareness of danger. She can become overwhelmed and dysregulated, which may result in screaming, grabbing, throwing objects or lashing out. These behaviours are her way of communicating rather than being naughty, so she needs someone who can remain calm, patient and understanding.
Routine, consistency and building trust are incredibly important for Gracie, so I’m hoping to find someone who would like to become part of our family for the long term.
My Requirements
I’m looking for flexible respite support during term time and school holidays.
Initially, support would mainly be:
* Sunday afternoons/evenings during term time (around 4-6 hours).
* Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays during school holidays for a few hours each day.
The role would involve playing with Gracie, keeping her safe, helping with sensory activities, supporting her communication, occasional personal care, and, as trust develops, possibly taking her on local outings.
Experience supporting autistic or non-verbal children would be wonderful, but I’m equally happy to hear from someone with the right attitude who is willing to learn. The most important qualities are patience, reliability, confidence and compassion.
