About Me
I grew up in Bath before moving to Oxford in 2022 to study Paramedic Science. Before going to university, I spent three years working in the NHS, initially as a Healthcare Assistant before joining the Physiotherapy team. Working in the hospital helped me develop my confidence, compassion and communication skills, and made me realise how much I enjoy supporting and caring for others.
While studying to become a paramedic, I started babysitting and nannying alongside my degree. I quickly discovered how much I loved working with children and have since cared for babies from just 8 weeks old through to school-aged children. I've also supported a non-verbal child with severe learning disabilities, adapting my communication and activities to meet his individual needs.
Although I qualified as a paramedic this year, I realised that the part of my work I enjoy most is building relationships with people and helping them grow and thrive. That experience confirmed that my passion lies in working with children.
From September, I'll be working as a Teaching Assistant at a primary school, and I'm looking to provide after-school and holiday childcare alongside this. I love getting outdoors, being creative, reading stories, playing games and supporting children's learning and development in a fun, safe and nurturing environment. I'm excited to become a trusted and reliable part of another family's routine.
My Experience
I've been nannying for the past couple of years now, so have worked with several families with children ranging from 8 weeks old to 2 years old. My responsibilities included nappy changing, supporting breastfeeding mothers, bottle-feeding, going for walks, reading books and singing songs, and ensuring the safety and welfare of each child.
As well as this, I've done babysitting for many families. My responsibilities included providing entertainment and age-appropriate activities, assisting with homework and reading, helping with baths and bedtime, and, again, ensuring the safety and welfare of each child.
My experiences range from ages 8 weeks to 14 years old.
I have also cared for a young boy with a severe learning disability from the age of 2 up to 5 years old. This included taking him to and picking him up from his special education school, engaging with him and learning how he communicated, as he was non-verbal. I took the time to understand his individual needs and learned to recognise behaviours and cues to ensure his safety, comfort and wellbeing at all times.
My Qualifications
I have just completed a degree in Paramedic Science with a 2:1. Having worked in the NHS for the past 8 years, I have experience working in different roles throughout healthcare, learning to adapt to individual needs.
I have extensive experience caring for babies and children of all ages, including children with additional and complex needs. I am confident with feeding, changing, sleep routines, play-based learning, and supporting children’s development.
As well as this, I also hold an Enhanced DBS on the update service.
I am responsible, reliable, and safety-focused, and I always aim to create a calm, nurturing, and fun environment where children will feel safe and comfortable.
My Availability
I start work as a Teaching Assistant in Abingdon in September. My finish time is 3:30 (so please bare in mind travel times). I’m hoping to find a family who needs a few hours of care for their child/children after school.
