About Me

Hi, my name is Kelly, I am an Ofsted registered childminder with a background in veterinary nursing, raising two strong independent school age children and an assistant coach to preschool age children in a local martial arts club.
I have completed an Ofsted recognised early years course, paediatric first aid course, safeguarding and food safety course.
I work out of my family home in the Wildridings area, a short walk to Mill Pond and Wildridings Primary School.
I have a warm home with a dedicated playroom that expands into the main living area. A fully enclosed rear garden with trees, a vegetable patch for little fingers to explore and help them understand where their vegetables come from. Children will be able to follow the life cycle of the vegetables from a seed that they will plant, to watching it grow, waiting for when it is time to harvest then they will use small garden tools to harvest the vegetable themselves. Eventually preparing them and putting them on their plate. Shade available through most of the day and various garden activities whether its den building with sheets and chairs or playing with balls or chalk.
The kitchen is child safe and leads directly into the dining area where children will be able to prepare and eat their breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is important to me to allow the children some autonomy in creating their meals to encourage healthy eating habits and knowledgeable food choices. I will be explaining the powers (nutrition) of the foods as we build our plates.
I encourage adventure and most mornings will be out exploring nature with the children, using natural resources to cover the early years syllabus. On days where the opportunity allows, we will spend entire days out in the wild, with a prepared picnic and snacks and water.
We have two cats, Lady Sif, who is child-friendly and has educated my children how to behave around cats by gaining their attention then allowing petting whilst monitored by myself, and Angel, a curious young cat who interacts with the children beautifully. Both are fully vaccinated, treated for parasites regularly and has regular vet visits. My background in veterinary nursing also means I can recognise and teach children how to recognise dog body language and teach them safety around dogs while we are out and about. Meaning they will make safer choices about approaching unknown dogs.
Settling in periods recommended and encouraged to allow children to gain familiarity with our home and me as their carer.
