Part-Time Home Educator / Educational Nanny – Chatham, Kent

We are a family based in Chatham, Kent, seeking a warm, enthusiastic and experienced home educator or educational nanny to support our bright, curious and sociable three-year-old son.
We are planning a period of home education over the next two academic terms potentially longer and are looking for someone who can provide a consistent, nurturing and stimulating learning environment tailored to his individual abilities and needs.
This position would particularly suit an experienced early years practitioner, qualified teacher or educational nanny who is confident delivering an individualised learning programme and has an understanding of sensory processing differences.
About Our Son
Our son is a happy, affectionate and inquisitive little boy who loves reading, numbers, construction, imaginative play, music and exploring the world around him.
He is academically advanced for his age, particularly in early literacy. He can already decode words, recognise digraphs and form letters independently. We are keen to nurture his natural curiosity and provide appropriate academic challenge while ensuring that learning remains enjoyable, engaging and developmentally appropriate.
He also has additional needs relating primarily to sensory processing and emotional regulation. He can become overwhelmed in busy, noisy or highly stimulating environments and benefits from familiar adults, predictable routines, gentle communication and opportunities for movement.
He is naturally sociable and enjoys interacting with others. We would like to continue supporting his emotional understanding, confidence, independence and social development in preparation for his eventual return to a mainstream school environment.
The Role
We are looking for someone who can independently plan and deliver an engaging, individualised home education programme incorporating:
Literacy: Phonics, reading, spelling, handwriting, comprehension and early writing.
Mathematics: Number work, early calculations, reasoning, patterns and problem-solving.
Understanding the world: Science, nature, geography and practical exploration.
Creative development: Art, music, imaginative play and hands-on learning.
Physical development: Outdoor activities, movement, coordination and fine motor skills.
Personal and social development: Emotional literacy, independence, turn-taking, personal space and confidence.
We are not looking for four hours of formal lessons. We would like learning to be delivered through a combination of short, focused teaching sessions, purposeful play, practical activities and outdoor exploration.
Our son will also be receiving support from an experienced SEND professional. We would welcome someone willing to collaborate with his support team and incorporate recommended strategies into his daily routine.
Daily Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for independently managing the morning from 9 am until 1 pm, including:
Planning and delivering stimulating educational activities tailored to his abilities and interests.
Providing a balance of structured learning, child-led play and movement.
Serving a simple, nutritious lunch, made by us.
Supporting toileting, handwashing and age-appropriate independence.
Maintaining a calm, predictable daily routine.
Supporting emotional regulation and transitions using positive, consistent strategies.
Tidying educational materials and areas used during the session.
Following his established afternoon routine and settling him for his nap before finishing at 1 pm.
Providing brief updates on his learning, achievements and areas for development.
There may also be opportunities for local educational outings, including library visits, nature walks, museums and other enriching activities.
My Requirements
About You
We are particularly interested in candidates who have:
A recognised teaching or early years qualification, or substantial relevant experience.
Experience teaching children within EYFS and/or Key Stage 1.
Strong knowledge of systematic synthetic phonics and early mathematics.
Experience supporting children with sensory processing differences and emotional regulation needs.
The ability to differentiate learning for a child who is academically ahead of typical age expectations.
A warm, patient, encouraging and child-centred approach.
An understanding of the importance of predictable routines, movement and play.
Confidence independently planning and delivering an educational programme.
Excellent communication skills and a willingness to work collaboratively with parents and other professionals.
An enhanced DBS check and excellent references.
Experience with home education, Montessori or other child-centred educational approaches would be welcomed but is not essential.
We would particularly value someone who understands that a child's sensory and emotional needs can vary depending on their environment and who can respond flexibly and sensitively.

Days: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Hours: 9 am–1 pm
Total: 12 hours per week
Salary: From £18 per hour, negotiable depending on qualifications, experience and suitability
Start date: Ideally November 2026, although we can be flexible for the right candidate
Duration: Initially approximately two academic terms, with the possibility of extending the arrangement
We are hoping to establish a positive, long-term relationship with someone who can become a familiar and trusted presence in our son's life.
There may also be opportunities for the role to evolve in the future, potentially supporting our younger daughter as she grows.
