Part Time Nanny with Special Needs Experience Job in Peterborough
About Me
I am a wedding photographer, wife and mum to 2 wild boys.
My youngest is 3 and my eldest is 6.
My Requirements
We are looking to recruit a caring, experienced and reliable SEN-supporting childcare professional to support our two boys, aged 7 and 4.
This role is ideally suited to someone with experience working with children with additional needs, particularly neurodiversity and emotional regulation support.
About the children
Our eldest son (7) has a diagnosis of ADHD and ASD and can experience anxiety and periods of emotional dysregulation. During these times, he may need calm, patient and skilled support to help him feel safe and regulated again. He benefits from consistent structure, clear communication, and an adult who is confident supporting him through meltdowns in a calm and supportive way.
Our youngest son (4) is energetic, affectionate, and enjoys age-appropriate play, routine, and attention.
Role responsibilities
The role will include:
School pick-ups for both children
After-school care in the home
Preparing and serving dinner
Supporting evening routines including bath and bedtime
Providing calm, consistent support during periods of dysregulation or anxiety
Supporting emotional regulation using appropriate, calm strategies and de-escalation techniques
Engaging the children in structured and play-based activities
We are particularly looking for someone who is confident allowing additional time and flexibility for our eldest son’s needs, especially during transitions and routines such as evenings and bedtime. He can require more time and patience with daily tasks, and we are looking for someone who understands and is comfortable with this pace.
Additional occasional support (including travel/wedding assistance)
On occasion, we may also require additional support during special circumstances, such as a family wedding abroad this year.
In this situation, we would be looking for someone to support in the mornings by:
Helping get Freddie ready for school
Supporting his morning routine and ensuring he is dressed, prepared, and regulated
Completing school drop-off
During this time, my mum would also be present to help support our younger son, Leo, however the focus of the role would be on Freddie. Mornings can be particularly challenging for him as his ADHD medication is still taking effect, and he can present as highly energetic and dysregulated until it has fully kicked in. Calm, consistent support during this time is essential.
Hours & flexibility
We are currently in the process of applying for Direct Payments from the local authority, so exact hours are not yet confirmed. However, we anticipate needing support:
After school on weekdays (term time)
Evenings (regular and ad hoc)
Weekends (as needed)
Potential daytime support during school holidays and half terms
Occasional flexible support for special circumstances such as travel or events
Flexibility will be important, as hours may vary depending on funding allocation and family needs.
About you
We are looking for someone who has:
Experience working with children with SEN (particularly ADHD, ASD, and anxiety)
A calm, patient and consistent approach
Confidence supporting children through emotional dysregulation or meltdowns
Strong understanding of routines, boundaries, and emotional regulation strategies
A nurturing, reliable and trustworthy manner
Ideally experience in childcare, education, SEN support work, or similar roles
A relevant qualification (e.g. childcare, education, SEN support, youth work) would be beneficial, though strong hands-on experience is equally important.
Additional requirements
DBS check required (or willingness to complete one)
References required
First aid training preferred
If you are someone who genuinely enjoys supporting children with additional needs and can provide a calm, structured and caring presence, we would love to hear from you.
