About Me

I’m Megan, an Ofsted registered childminder. I am a mum of 11-year-old Elsie and 9-year-old Eva. Also at home is my husband Robert, a London Underground signal engineer, 2 cats, a frog and a gecko.

I take children into my care from newborn to the term after they turn 3 years old. We live in Wickford close to the Wick Country Park and on our days together we will out as much as possible. I have passes to Hyde Hall, White Elm Petting Farm, Southend Sealife Centre and Call of the Wild for myself and the children and we’ll also go on woodland walks and visit various parks and beaches, libraries, soft play centres and playgroups so the children have lots of variety for days out. This allows children to develop social skills by interacting with other children and to participate in new, challenging and educational activities. Children gain a lot from these experiences such as independence, following instructions, learning numbers, colours and shapes, and understanding how to interact safely with strangers. All of these are carried out under close supervision so that your child is safe and yet able to learn.
We will also spend time at home in my newly built playhouse and I’ll usually have a tuff tray set out for planned activities. Any adult-led activity will be carried out alongside free-play where children will choose what to play with and how to carry out their play.
Daily I’ll record what we’ve been learning through pictures and a summary which it sent at the end of the day with pictures of our activities over WhatsApp.
Your child is unique and as such their learning and development will be unique to them and therefore my planning.

My Experience

Prior to becoming a childminder, I spent 15 years in Hampshire, BTP and the Metropolitan Police forces as an Intelligence Analyst but after having Eva, I discovered how much I adored being with my children and their friends. I loved sitting with them and helping them learn, doing craft activities and taking them on adventures, so I decided to retrain in a far more fulfilling career. I knew I would really enjoy being a childminder because prior to studying for my A-levels I’d had a lot of experience working with children. After completing my GCSEs I spent a summer working in a pre-school in America, and then as part of my GNVQ studies I worked in several placements including nurseries, playgroups and a school for SEN children.
Having had both of my children in various nurseries, and had experience working in a range of childcare settings, I have invaluable insight into being both the parent and the childcare provider. At Mega Minding I bring all the elements together of the positive experiences I have had, whilst trying to minimise any negative aspects. Mega Minding is the childcare provider I wish I had experienced, so I hope it is everything you’ve ever wanted for childcare too.

Good
21 October 2022
Confident children enjoy a range of learning experiences that support their development across all areas. The childminder creates an inclusive environment where children learn about different cultures and develop strong communication skills. Regular community outings to parks, woods, and the library broaden children's understanding of the world around them. Children follow good hygiene routines and benefit from healthy eating practices. Parents value the kind and compassionate care their children receive. The childminder maintains effective safeguarding arrangements and keeps her knowledge current through regular training. To further improve, she should provide more opportunities for children to use their imagination and express creativity independently, rather than directing their play.
