About Me

My name is Lily, and I come from a huge, loving family in the south-east of London. Being in a large family means I’m one of many siblings, and being one of the oldest is where my love for childcare spawned. I’ve always cared for and looked after my younger siblings and have gradually adopted a caregiving role towards them from new-born to current ages.

I went to a school in Orpington and after I completed GCSE exams (grading all A-C), I began studying finance and business A-levels. During the first year, I realised that it was not the right path for me and that my passion and skills remained within the childcare setting, so I finished the year gaining two AS-level qualifications. Shortly after leaving sixth form, I found a job as a practitioner within an early years environment. I thoroughly enjoyed the year there, helping and engaging young children in all kinds of play and learning. I enjoyed tracking progress and providing them with skills they can use in school. However, at the start of the pandemic, I decided I was going to return to study, gained three A-levels and just recently graduated from university with a BSc in Biomedical Science.

I am also a permanent part-time nanny for a lovely family, and have been for over 4 years!

I also babysit for a few families regularly. I really still want to continue exploring my skills working with children, and I look forward to hopefully getting to know more families and building great relationships!

My Experience

I worked for a nursery for 12 months, specialising in toddlers aged 1-3; however, I spent time with all children aged 0-5. This role was a full-time position, and I worked 40 hours a week, often with overtime. My primary responsibilities included basic care and hygiene routines for the children, for example- feeding bottles, nappy changes, toilet/potty trips, hand washing, dressing, eating and drinking, helping the children get to sleep for nap times and comfort when upset, keeping the play areas tidy and hygienic and general cleaning of the building. Other roles and responsibilities included safeguarding, which involved headcounts, accident forms, registers, contacting and updating parents with any changes to the child’s regular day and regular fire safety checks. Roles I happily took on also included playing with the children, ensuring a safe play environment, implementing learning into play e.g counting, colours, numbers, completing messy play and creative activities, interacting with the children to fulfil the wants and needs of them, regularly communicating with parents, and generally having fun and maintaining an enjoyable safe environment.

I frequently babysit for a few families, the children are of varying ages usually between 2-12 when I babysit it tends to be for at least 4 hours. My general roles include, making sure the house remains clean, playing with the children and doing activities such as puzzles, baking and drawing. Then encouraging them to wind down for the evening with stories and bedtime routines.

I also permanently work with a family through an agency, in term time I pick the boys up from school, bring them home and engage in homework, reading and play. I also prepare and serve dinners for the boys. Out of termtime I look after the boys for full days and take them to take part in fun activities such as air jump, rock-climbing and attending the local park with a football.

My Qualifications

I have 9 GCSE grades 9-4, AS-Level Business and Finance, A-Level Biology, Chemistry and English Language. I also have a First class (Hons) BSc Biomedical Science. Other than educational qualifications, I am qualified in paediatric first aid and an Enhanced DBS qualified. I have various safeguarding certificates, including food hygiene and FGM.
