About Me
I am a mature, experienced professional with a friendly, understanding manner and a natural rapport with children.
As the mother of a now grown-up daughter, I understand the challenges youngsters - and their concerned parents - face when it comes to education and exams.
My approach is to assess each pupil to find out their academic strengths and weaknesses before creating methods to help them improve. It's important to encourage them to find some enjoyment in the subject for this progress to happen.
I teach Verbal Reasoning , English Literature and English Language, and French and Latin to children of all ages up to, and including, GCSE level.
I can also help younger children and those who have not yet reached that stage, with reading, writing, history, and creative and factual essay writing.
My Experience
After University, I taught mainly English (and Latin) as a private tutor to pupils aged between 11 and 18.
My passion for writing led to a successful career as a features writer and editor in the national media for many years. During this time, I also found time to teach GCSE and A level English to a few pupils, including my own daughter, who attained top grades in her GCSEs, and A star in Latin GCSE at the age of 13, and went on to attend Tiffin Girls' Sixth Form.
My connection with young people and helping them improve their written and spoken English has been an important part of my life.
Every year for the past 12 years, I have hosted a different Swedish student (aged17/18) and helped them refine their conversational English.
In my role as an editor, I helped junior writers craft better written features for publication.
I have now come full-circle and provide private tuition to children up to GCSE level.
My Qualifications
BA Degree in English and Latin, Royal Holloway College, University of London
A Level: English Literature, French Literature and Language, Latin Language, History and Literature.
S Level English Literature (special paper on Shakespeare)
My Availability
I am currently free every Monday, from the morning until the evening. Weekends can also be considered until my weekday availability increases this autumn.

My Fees
- Tutoring from £35.00 per hour
My fees depend upon the age and level of the child, and if sessions take place in person or small groups. Travelling to and from a location may incur an extra charge.
