About Me

My name is Katya and I am a nurturing childcarer enthusiastic about creating a fun and safe environment for young minds to explore the world! I have an academic background in evolutionary anthropology, graduating first from Exeter University and then with a Masters degree from Oxford University. I began a PhD in Germany at the beginning of 2025, but I made the considered decision to leave that position and move back to London in July. I am now volunteering part-time at Oxfam books in Muswell Hill. I am passionate about fostering an enriching, exciting, and educational environment for children which allows each individual to learn through experience at their own pace and through their own methods. I have worked with children on and off over the last decade and have loved getting to know the quirks of each and every child. My interest in working with children stems from my own desire to help children feel safe, comfortable, and excited by life throughout their development. I understand the care and attention that children deserve which can be difficult to manage, especially alongside work, and I would love to help make your lives easier by giving you the security that your kids are always happy and in safe hands. Whilst my formal training is in science, my hobbies include art, playing piano and viola, learning languages, swimming, and spending time in nature. I would also love to engage your children with these activities, within their comfort zones.

My Experience

My background in childcare is incredibly diverse. I began as a babysitter for friends and family as a teenager, branching out into GCSE tutoring, as well as working as a piano and violin teacher. During my undergraduate studies, I worked part time as a nanny for 2 families. This involved meal preparations, school pickups, tutoring, sports, pet care, and more. One of the children I was responsible for was permanently disabled and unable to talk, walk, or feed herself. I was therefore employed by Cornwall Council under the title ‘social carer’, and this role involved enrichment activities for the child, as well as supporting their siblings in their own development.

My Qualifications

I hold a BSc in Human Sciences with honours from the University of Exeter, and an MSc in Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology from the University of Oxford. I am a trained and practiced peer-mentor for individuals aged 17+. I hold CEFR Level B2 French and A2 German, and grade 8 viola and piano.

My Availability

I am free weekdays from 9am - 6pm, with the possibility of doing school pick ups or drop offs before these times. I am happy to do occasional weekends and overnights, but not as part of a scheduled weekly agreement.
