About Me
I grew up in Canada and Germany with two little sisters and lots of little cousins and neighbours to babysit! I recently finished a PhD in British history, and moved here afterwards on a Youth Mobility Visa because I made such good friends while doing my research here. As I settle into life in London, I'm looking for part-time childcare work to balance my work as a research assistant. I love crafting, running around, reading stories, and the chance to see from children's perspectives.
My Experience
I have looked after children and teenagers up to the age of fifteen. My experience mainly fits into three categories: babysitting, working at summer camp, and working as a tutor.
As a babysitter, I have taken care of up to four children at a time, with responsibilities including school pick-up, homework help, outdoor play, bedtime routines, and making snacks and dinner. I like to engage in activities together like drawing, reading, crafting, going to the park, and imaginative play. I have babysat on and off since I was thirteen, for sessions ranging from 2-5 hours at a time.
As a summer camp counselor, I've been responsible for up to fifteen children (all of the same age) at the same time. I've served as a general counselor to girls and boys, making sure they are clean, safe, and happy. I've also held specific responsibilities leading craft activities and as a lifeguard, though my certification as expired (along with my first aid certification.) I did this each summer between the ages of 16-24, working nearly 24/7 for five days at a time.
I have combined tutoring with babysitting and also done specialised tutoring focussed on reading and writing. I am very passionate about children's books and would love to introduce all kinds of stories to your children! My tutoring sessions have usually lasted 45 minutes to an hour based on my students' attention spans.
My Qualifications
I have previously been first-aid certified but this has expired. We could discuss my renewing this qualification or working towards others if that would be of interest.
