My Summary
About Me
Hey, I’m Joanna and I am 30 years old. I am a part-time primary school teacher and starting an education in (fill in course name) at (fill in place of study) in September. I am a very fun, enthusiastic and reliable person and I love taking care of children as I find great joy in seeing them grow and develop.
Having several years experience as a babysitter and working part-time in a school, I understand how different each child can be, and tailor myself to their needs, in order to communicate best with them. I believe this to be very important when working with both the children and the parents.
As a younger person myself, the children I have cared for have always enjoyed my energy and enthusiasm; and though I’m a city girl at heart I also love the countryside, so I would always make sure that your child/children got a good variety of exercise, in conjunction with playdates/outings and creative activities too.
My approach to looking after children nurtures their development and growth, as well as challenges them to try new things and explore the curiosities of the world.
I always make sure that children feel at ease with me by hailing g fun with, being bubbly and silly but also importantly setting clear boundaries so they have consistency and feel secure in their environment; this always brings out the best in children
Personally I enjoy exercising and going for walks, seeing my friends, going to the theatre, dance classes and trying new activities. I always like to see the positives in life and believe that things will always be okay in the end.
My Experience
I have several years of experience caring for children through both babysitting and my work as a teaching assistant in a primary school. A lot of my babysitting experience has been with my nieces and nephews, who I absolutely adore, which has given me lots of hands-on experience looking after children in a relaxed home environment.
Alongside this, I work as a teaching assistant where I support children with their learning in the classroom, help with routines and activities, and work closely with teachers to create a positive and supportive environment for the children.
Through my role at the school I have also worked with children with additional needs. I have spent time in SEN classrooms supporting children with autism (ASD), as well as providing 1:1 support for children with ADHD, helping them stay focused by adapting activities and making learning more engaging for them.
I have also supported children who can show more challenging or oppositional behaviour, and through this I’ve learned that the most important thing is building a trusting relationship first. Once children feel comfortable, understood and secure, it becomes much easier for them to engage, explore their interests and enjoy their time.
Overall I always aim to create a warm, fun and supportive environment where children feel happy, safe and encouraged to be themselves. Whether that’s helping with homework, playing games, doing creative activities or spending time outdoors, I enjoy making sure children feel engaged and well looked after.
My Qualifications
I’m a first-class psychology graduate who has recently made a complete career change to pursue my passion for working with children. I currently work as a teaching assistant in a primary school and will be starting teacher training in September, which will allow me to continue developing my knowledge of child development, learning and education.
Alongside my studies, my hands-on experience working with children in a school environment has helped me build strong communication skills, patience and a calm, caring approach. I really enjoy supporting children as they grow, learn and build confidence, and I always aim to create a safe, positive and nurturing environment where they feel comfortable and supported.
