My Summary
About Me
Ofsted registered Childminder in Abram.
Hi, I’m Caroline, and live in Abram. I was a childminder in the 90s before starting a career in education. I then worked in special education for 36 years, planning and delivering lessons and activities appropriate to the children’s ages, needs and abilities. I recently decided to return to childminding, as looking after and teaching young children is what I really enjoy doing.
I have 3 children of my own and 4 grandchildren under 11, so fully appreciate the importance of having the right person look after your child in a homely, fun environment.
My facilities include a purpose-built room for the children with its own bathroom, as well as a fully enclosed and secure garden.
I like to plan a day's activities around a theme, which may be based on a story or a single idea, and ensure that all these activities support the children's progression and development as set out in the EYFS framework - and always FUN! Every effort will be made to support cultural diversity, with activities introduced to support children's home beliefs, and parents are welcome to share their beliefs and have input into planned cultural days. Children will explore the local community through walks to local parks, ponds and farms, as well as visits to local community groups and the library. I have worked with SEND for many years and understand the need to explore different ways of communicating - both with children and helping children to communicate their own needs and ideas.
An example day would include:
Breakfast on arrival, if applicable.
Morning "Welcome". This may include a "Hello" song.
Followed by physical movement or a senses activity.
A short free-play session.
Next a story, which will be related to the theme for the day.
Snack-time – fresh fruit, biscuit and drink.
Theme-related activities. This may include cooking, outdoor activity, arts and crafts, etc.
Lunch - hot or cold, depending on the season Menu available to parents.
Free Play, then – teeth cleaning followed by a nap if appropriate.
Sensory /science-based activity to develop knowledge, skills and ideas around the theme of the day.
Free play quiet time in reading corner / TV time around the day's theme.
Tea-time
Activities indoors and/or outdoors, appropriate to the children's ages, abilities and interests e.g. Physical; Cooking; Art; Science through play; Numbers and writing through play; Personal Hygiene including teeth cleaning; Music; Sensory play.
All meals are home cooked and fresh. Fresh fruit is available every day. All I ask parents to supply is a bag with a change of clothes, nappies and wipes, sun cream if used and any baby milk formula required.
