About Me

Hi my name is Diana! I am a recent university graduate with a First Class BA in the social sciences/humanities. I am hoping to find a role in childcare as I am extremely passionate about childrens welfare and development. While my degree was not directly related to childcare, I have engaged thoroughly with topics related to child development, community childcare, and parenting during my studies. Additionally, I have many years of doing informal childcare as I grew up in a community whereby childcare responsibilities were shared amongst all. This ethic of community responsibility is largely what fuels my passion for childcare. I believe in the old adage that it takes a village to raise a child. We all have a collective responsibility for raising the next generation to reach their full potential and empowering them to be positive forces in the world. Although parents do a phenomenal job at instilling these values into their children, it is even more enriching for them to have other guardian figures who are able to reinforce these values and also provide additional values and perspectives into their lives. I also believe that children have so much to teach us about life, and they remind us of things that we often take for granted. Providing childcare is extremely valuable for these reasons, and I look forward to the opportunity to be able to make positive contributions to families in these ways.

My previous experience as a Direct Support Worker required me to actively engage with applying this community ethic. In this role, I worked to support adults with a diagnosis of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder to live independently. Many of these adults were single parents who struggled to manage their child rearing responsibilities. So, much of my role in providing support also involved providing childcare support alongside the parents as a means of building their confidence in their own parenting capacities. I built trusting relationships with both the parents and children that I was supporting in the years that I was in this role. Although there were many times when the work was difficult, I would never trade that experience for anything. It was such a gift to watch the children grow and to watch the parents grow with their child.

My world is painted with brush strokes of curiosity, adventure, and creativity; I thoroughly enjoy engaging with all of my creative hobbies. The main creative outlets that I exercise are crocheting, beading, jewellery making, makeup artistry, garment making, and writing. During my time in university I started a fibre arts workshop to teach people how to crochet. Running the workshop provided me with excellent mentorship experience, but most importantly it allowed me to regularly engage in an act of love by imparting my skills and knowledge upon others. I believe that for children having creative hobbies is an essential part of their development, and it is something that I would regularly encourage as part of my childcare responsibilities. I am a highly energetic person on most days, so I am more than capable of matching the energy levels that children often have. It is vital to ensure that children are regularly exposed to healthy stimulation, so engaging with a child's extracurricular activities is something that brings me joy.

Finally, I am DBS cleared, and I also own and operate my own vehicle with an impeccable driving record.
