Part-Time Nanny/Family Helper Needed For Two Young Children (Approx 6-10 Hrs/Week)
About Me
We are a friendly family who have recently moved to Lanchester from Yorkshire to be closer to extended family. My husband continues to commute to Harrogate for work four days a week, so I’m looking for some additional help with the children during the times he’s not home, both so I can get things done around the house and also so we can get out on little adventures, which can be quite tiring to manage on my own with two young children.
We have two girls. Our eldest is almost 4 and our youngest is 16 months. Our eldest enjoys independent play but also loves interaction, imagination and being silly. Our youngest is currently more attached to mummy (which makes getting anything done, or even going to the toilet alone, a bit of a challenge sometimes haha), but she warms up well to people she knows and trusts. She loves building towers and knocking them down, playing with her dolly, copying her big sister, and generally both girls just enjoy lots of fun, laughter and attention.
We’d love to spend more time getting out and about, things like Beamish, walks, farms, parks and local activities, and having another adult pair of hands would make this much more manageable and enjoyable for everyone. I generally default soft play centres, as it's easier to manage on my own, but we'd like to go out and explore more.
I’m currently pregnant, so although I’ll usually be at home, I’m looking for someone confident taking the lead with the children while I rest, get jobs done, or take a break when needed.
We follow a gentle, respectful parenting approach, so it’s important to us that anyone supporting our family is warm, patient and aligned with those values.
Personality and reliability matter most. We’re hoping to find someone kind, trustworthy and easy to have around the home who can become a comfortable part of our routine.
We also have two small older dogs (Chihuahuas), so anyone applying would need to be comfortable around dogs.
My Requirements
My husband works a rotating shift pattern which we know well in advance. His shifts run across four consecutive days each week (two 12-hour day shifts followed by two 12-hour night shifts), with the days moving forward by one day each week.
Example:
Week 1: Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs
Week 2: Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri
Week 3: Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat
Week 4: Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun
Week 5: Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon
And so on...
The support we are mainly looking for is during the daytime AFTER he has worked his night shifts, so that he can sleep and recover safely while I have some additional help with the children. This would usually be two days per week, typically around 9am–2pm, although there may sometimes be the option for additional hours if wanted, especially as my pregnancy progresses.
We always know the dates ahead of time and can share the schedule well in advance.
During these hours I will usually be at home, and the role would involve confidently taking the lead with the children (playing, supervising activities, and sometimes helping us get out of the house for outings) while I rest, get things done, or take a break when needed.
We’re ideally looking for someone who can offer some flexibility and who is comfortable becoming part of our weekly routine.
