Position: Specialized Career Nanny & SEND Household Manager
Location: Exeter, Devon
Rate: £15 – £18 per hour (Negotiable based on experience)
Family Profile
We are a professional household (Police Force and Sales high pressure jobs) seeking a dedicated, long-term Nanny/manny for our 6-year-old son. He is a lovely, kind, and deeply intuitive child who is highly emotive, but currently struggling with undiagnosed high-needs ADHD traits. We need a resilient "self-starter" to build a structured, high-energy relationship with him.
Working Hours & Rota (Flexibility Required)
Because of the nature of the Police Force shift patterns (sets of "Lates" and "Earlies" on a 3- or 4-on, 2-off rotation), we require a candidate who can work flexibly.
* Term-Time: We anticipate needing approximately 6 afternoons per month (15:30 – 18:30) to cover late shifts, these can sometimes be over 1 or 2 weeks, plus one weekend per month (Saturday & Sunday, 09:30 – 18:30).
* School Holidays: Mandatory Full-Time (Summer and Half-Terms). Absolute reliability during these periods is a non-negotiable requirement.
* Note: You will be provided with the shift pattern in advance to allow for planning.
Key Responsibilities
* High-Stakes Safety & Vigilance: Our son has a complete lack of "stranger danger" and low road-safety impulse control. You must provide 100% "eyes-on" vigilance at all times. He can walk by your side but will tend to run off ahead.
* Physical Regulation (Small Home Reality): Our house is modest; daily excursions (walks, parks, soft play) are essential in all weathers. He is physically strong, fast, and an impulsive climber.
* Sensory & Home Engagement: You must be creative with "heavy work" and sensory-seeking activities (pushing, climbing, jumping) to help him tire out safely. "Squishing" is a regular thing in our household and he loves being cuddled and physically rolled into a burrito.
* Toileting & Hygiene: Managing a consistent, "no-shame" timed-potty routine to address distractibility-related soiling issues, help clean up messes if they occur and help him clean himself if needed.
* Behavioral Resilience: He may push boundaries or tell "big stories" when overwhelmed. You must remain an unflappable anchor, recognizing these as reflections of his internal feelings (fear, worry, or anger).
* Household Support: Acting as a "Mother’s Helper." While he is at school or settled, you will proactively manage light tidying, laundry, and general organization.
Candidate Requirements
* Proven Experience: Background in SEND (ADHD, SPD, or Autism) is essential.
* Qualifications: DBS check, Pediatric First Aid, and professional references.
* Attributes: Physically fit, emotionally mature, and able to provide calm, firm authority.
