Hello! I am Leigh. and this is Leigh's Little Explorers. I have been married to Steven for 15 years, and we have two children, a teenager and a school-age child. We live in Newtonhill, I am part of SCMA in the Aberdeenshire area. I am a dedicated and highly qualified Early Years Practitioner (EYP) with over 15 years with a passion for supporting children’s development in a nurturing, home-from-home environment. I am a confident Childminder, providing fun, laughter, curiosity, and wonder as part of our daily activities and learning in a flexible setting
My Experience
Experience & Approach
I began my career as a Nursery Assistant in 2006 and progressed to a Nursery Nurse role in 2011, giving me a deep understanding of the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE). I specialize in:
Purposeful Play: I follow child-led activities that deliver — messy play (paints, "gloop," fake snow)—that promote fine motor skills and cognitive exploration, to adventure park walk, and other activities that have been requested. But we do have a routine of when snacks, personal care, and Lunch are provided
Development Tracking: I use regular observations to track milestones, ensuring every child’s individual needs are met.
Strong Partnerships: I pride myself on building trusting relationships with families to provide consistent, high-quality care. I also believe that building trusting relationships with the children is equally important.
Specialist Care & Inclusion
I am highly experienced in supporting children with Additional Support Needs (ASN) as well as working in both mainstream and nursery settings for over twenty years. I am confident in providing tailored care to ensure every child feels safe and included. My specialist medical training includes:
Emergency Care: Epilepsy awareness, seizure management, and Anaphylaxis/EpiPen training.
Assisted Feeding: Trained in PEG, bolus, and tube feeding support.
Safety & Welfare: Fully Safeguarding and Child Protection trained, holding a current Paediatric First Aid certificate, to name only a few.

My Availability
I offer a calm, patient, and reliable environment where children can build independence and confidence. My core qualities focus on providing a nurturing space that fosters a true sense of wonder.
I offer flexible hours to accommodate the unique schedules of local families. - I can do school drop off/collection from Lairhillock Primary School/Nursery and Newtonhill Nursery drop off/collection at 1 pm at present (could be subject to change - parents' requests, etc.)
My Fees
- Childminding from £6.00 per hour
£6 per hour - including snacks and Lunch
£7.50 PH Before and After School
