About the Role
We are looking for a proactive, nurturing, and highly empathetic Summer Nanny / Mother’s Help to support our family over the summer holidays. We have two wonderful children: a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy.
Mum is dedicating this summer to focusing intensely on improving her health and managing a busy medical schedule. Concurrently, we are preparing to homeschool our 5-year-old son for Year 1 starting in September. Our goal for him this summer is to stabilize his health and focus heavily on rebuilding his confidence and self-esteem.
Understanding Our 5-Year-Old’s Needs
Our son has a complex medical profile including ketotic hypoglycaemia, hypermobility, eczema, and glue ear, alongside other ongoing investigations.
* He has unfortunately been profoundly misunderstood in a traditional school setting that used a "behavioural approach" rather than recognizing that his challenges are medically triggered.
* We require a nanny who understands that his emotional flares or fatigue are direct physical symptoms (such as a drop in blood sugar or physical discomfort), and who responds with warmth, patience, and regulatory support.
Key Responsibilities
* Nurturing Childcare: Taking sole charge of both children for local outings, or looking after one child to allow Mum to have dedicated 1:1 time with the other.
* Medical Awareness: Confidently managing our son’s dietary timing to prevent hypoglycaemic drops, and keeping activities low-impact to protect his hypermobile joints when he is fatigued.
* Appointment Support: Providing reliable childcare while Mum rests or attends medical consultations. There may be opportunities for additional ad-hoc hours to cover urgent medical appointments.
* Meal Preparation & Admin: Prepping healthy, fresh meals/snacks for the kids (crucial for his glucose levels), managing child-related laundry, and keeping toy areas organized.
The Ideal Candidate
* Experience with SEN, early-years education, or pediatric medical needs is highly desirable.
* Someone who understands child psychology and is passionate about building a child’s self-esteem back up through positive reinforcement and play.
* Highly proactive—someone who sees what needs to be done and does it without needing constant direction.
* Non-smoker, holds a current DBS check, and has a paediatric first aid certificate.
September Potential (Homeschooling Integration)
From September 2026, we will be homeschooling our son for his Year 1 curriculum to prioritize his health therapies. For the right candidate, there is a strong possibility of this summer position extending into the autumn term as an educational nanny, tutor, or homeschooling assistant to help deliver his learning plan in a safe, therapeutic home environment.
