About Me

I'm the oldest of six kids and used to look after my younger siblings growing up, helping my mum by cooking meals, and assisting with their homework. I became a dad at 20 years old to a boy, which was the greatest day of my life.

My Experience

While looking after my brother and sister, my responsibilities included helping with homework, reading, cooking meals, putting them to bed, and playing at the park. Routine is your best friend when looking after kids. Caring for two siblings can be both a heartwarming and challenging experience, requiring patience, responsibility, and a good sense of humour. Whether you're an older sibling, a babysitter, or a temporary guardian, managing two children at once means balancing attention, solving conflicts, and creating a safe, fun environment.

One of the most important things to remember is that each child has their own personality and needs. What works for one sibling might not work for the other. It's helpful to give them individual attention, even if just for a few minutes. Listening to their stories, helping with homework, or simply playing a game together can strengthen your bond and show them they're valued.

At the same time, encouraging them to play and work together is equally important. Team games, group crafts, or shared responsibilities like tidying up can teach them cooperation and build their sibling relationship. Of course, disagreements are bound to happen, but guiding them to resolve conflicts calmly helps build life skills and keeps the peace. Set clear expectations for meals, screen time, and bedtime to avoid confusion and tantrums. Keep snacks handy, stay calm under pressure, and don't forget to laugh. Kids can be unpredictable, but they’re also full of love and creativity.

Most of all, looking after siblings isn’t just about keeping them safe — it’s about making them feel loved. With patience, empathy, and a little creativity, you can turn an ordinary day into a special memory. Even on the hard days, the hugs, the giggles, and the silly moments make it all worthwhile. Looking after two siblings is a big job, but it's also a beautiful opportunity to be a positive part of their world.
