About Me

I am a professional, organised and intuitive Nanny who takes pride in supporting parents and looking after children. I have over 10 years of experience in looking after children aged 4 months old to 16 years of age, this includes voluntary, qualification experience and professional paid work. I have a Level 3 CACHE Childcare and Education Grade A, a First Class Honours in Childhood, Youth and Community studies plus multiple Paediatric first aids training with most recent in 2025. As a Nanny I have 3 specific areas that have developed in my Nanny Career as someone who has a growth mind-set.

My Experience

First, how I parent, I take a more positive approach where I say what I want the child to do, not what I don’t want them to do, for example gentle hands, walking feet and quiet voices. In my degree I studied children’s mental health and attachment, from this I prioritise being emotionally in-tune with the child through reading their body language, listening to their requests and taking time to understand why they do what they do in their behaviour. Supporting children’s emotional literacy development and emotional health.

Second area is food and eating, this I developed specifically with one of my families where with the children we talked about “everyday food” and “sometimes food”. We would identify what nutrients were in what food and what different foods we needed to get all our nutrients. Most importantly we would talk about listening to our stomachs to identify when to eat and when we are full to stop eating, this ethos I take with me to every family I’ve worked for since.

Third area, sleep training babies/young toddlers, I have developed skills and experience in supporting good age appropriate sleeping habits. Here are two examples, one baby and one young toddler: For a 4 month old I looked out for their tiredness cues: bags under eyes, rubbing of eyes and specifically certain grumbling sounds made. I followed a routine of nappy change, feeding, patting and walking around in my arms until lightly asleep, I would lay them down gently rocking until fast asleep. Keeping the door open and checking every 10 minutes or so.

For a 12 month old, there wasn’t a nap routine in place when I started the position, so I set one up. I would watch for cues and set a time for nap, I created a personal routine for the little one where we would go round the room saying ‘see you soon’ to certain objects, going on to read a chosen book, then a big hug to laying them down in the cot, patting their back or holding their hand. Within 3 weeks there were no tears at all, the parents were able to follow this routine with success and within 2 months the little one, wanted me to sit next to the cot until they fell asleep with no patting or holding hands. We even got to the point at the age of 16 months where the little one would pretend to go to sleep to tell me they were ready for an early nap and would fall asleep very quickly on the go in the pram or instantly in the cot at home.
