My Experience

Over the course of 3 years I worked closely with two young girlsn who moved into my neighbourhood from Italy, with huge social interruptions under COVID circumstances the girls were left to attend online schooling whilst still trying to learn English as their second language and both parents worked full time. I looked after the girls on a 9-5 routine, often staying later in the evenings to support them with their home schooling, taking them to and from extra curricular activities and always finding new and creating ways to play. As fun and exciting as this role was of course there were challenging times such as when they argued with one another, when we were provided with a language barrier and more obstacles but with more experience and improved communication these hurdles were quickly overcome. I am still just as close with this family and took a trip to their hometown in Italy this summer as a result of my close relationship with the family. (A reference from the parent of this family is possible upon request!) Within my own family, I have often found myself being the older cousin looking after the youngest in the family (newborns to young teens) which i has always been an absolute pleasure, including being asked to be the Godmother of the newest to the family.
