Flexible / On-Call Nanny Needed for 3-Year-Old Boy in Colchester (Specific August Dates)
About Me
We are a young family based in Colchester with a happy, energetic 3-year-old son, and our second baby is arriving at the end of August 2026 by planned C-section. I work full-time in IT and my wife is currently pregnant, so we are getting our childcare cover organised in advance.
Our main need right now is care for our son at our home around the delivery, as the hospital will not confirm the exact surgery date until shortly beforehand. This means we are looking for someone who can be flexible and available across a few specific dates in August.
We are looking for someone experienced, reliable and genuinely comfortable with toddlers, ideally a babysitter or nanny who can come to us at home. We are open to a short-term arrangement for the August dates, and there may also be scope for more regular care after the baby arrives if it works well for everyone.
My Requirements
Hello! We are looking for a reliable nanny to care for our 3-year-old son in our home while we welcome our second child.
My wife is scheduled for a planned C-section the week of August 24th, but the hospital will not confirm our exact surgery date until Friday, August 21st. We have some dates covered by our regular nanny, but we need someone to fill in the gaps for the remaining potential delivery dates.
The Care Plan: You would care for our son at our house while we are at the hospital. Please be prepared to block out the full day for whichever date we are called in. Once my wife is safely moved to the maternity ward and settled, I will return home to take over childcare. While it may not take the entire day, we need someone who has full-day availability just in case things take longer than expected.
We are looking for availability on the following dates:
Mon, Aug 17th & Tue, Aug 18th (Full daytime availability)
Sat, Aug 22nd & Sun, Aug 23rd (Strictly on-call backup, in case of spontaneous weekend labor)
Mon, Aug 24th & Tue, Aug 25th (Full daytime availability for the scheduled surgery)
Important Note on Flexibility: Because of the hospital's scheduling process, we need someone who understands that the exact weekday will shift. We are happy to discuss an on-call retainer fee for the weekend dates to ensure you are available if an emergency trip to the hospital happens.

Sophie looked after our three-year-old son at our home on two occasions while we went for our baby scan appointments, as children aren't allowed in the scanner room. She stayed for around three hours each time and everything went really smoothly. Our son was very well looked after and happy, which gave us complete peace of mind while we were out. We'd happily book Sophie again and recommend her to other parents.
