My Summary

My Experience

I have been working with children of age ranges between 5 -18 for many years now. I have experience of neurodiverse and neurotypical children.

I recently held a post with a charity for supporting children with various learning difficulties, such as deaf, blind, Autism, and ADHD, for 2 years. This role was to support these children to expand their life experiences by taking them out into the community. It was important to promote their autonomy and independence, offering choices for their food and drink, specific activity, and the amount of time spent there. I encouraged the children to spend and manage their own money and supported them with their interactions with staff at cafes, shops, and restaurants.
I was sensitive to their emotional cues and would take initiative to support them or remove them from that environment, where appropriate.

I have experience working with neurotypical children of ages 7 and 8 in a school environment, where I worked as a teaching assistant. I supported these children educationally, socially, and emotionally, while providing a safe and nurturing environment. My role included taking a small group of children to support them in their reading, writing, and mathematics. This experience means that I am confident in supporting children with their homework.

I am proactive, take initiative, and promote independence and autonomy as much as I can. I enjoy working with children to teach them real life skills like cooking, managing their own money, socialising with others, but also having time to have fun! I have taken children to playgrounds, trampoline parks, shopping centres, cafes, theme parks, and many more.

My Qualifications

I have recently completed my masters degree with Distinction in Speech and Language Therapy. I have experience working with children with complex needs following my 10 week placement split between school and community, for children with autism, communication difficulties, swallowing difficulties, and speech sound difficulties.
I have a second class degree in Speech and Language Sciences from Plymouth Marjon University.
I have 10 GCSEs and 3 A-Levels.
I have an enhanced DBS check on the update system.
I hold a full driving license and have my own car.
