Looking for an afterschool babysitter - Portobello Area

Overview

We are seeking a reliable and caring individual to support our family with the after school run and early evening childcare. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, a calm and responsible approach, and the ability to manage after school routines independently. This role involves collecting two children from school, bringing them home safely, and supporting them through the early evening, including dinner time. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills, a nurturing attitude, and a commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing.

Responsibilities

Collect children from school at 3pm and 3:30pm and transport them home safely
Supervise and support children in the home environment after school
Prepare and serve a simple evening meal
Ensure children are safe, settled, and engaged until parents return
Communicate clearly with parents regarding daily routines or any concerns
Maintain a calm, positive, and structured after school environment
Adhere to agreed schedules and routines
Support additional hours when required, if available
Requirements

Enhanced DBS check (required)
Proven experience working with children in a childcare, nannying, or similar role
Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written
Reliable, punctual, and well-organised
Patient, caring, and confident managing two children of different ages
Ability to work independently and use good judgement
Driving licence is advantageous but not essential (depending on location)
Working Hours & Pay

Hours: Monday–Friday, 3pm–5pm, with the opportunity for additional hours
