About Me
Hi! My name is Emma. I am looking for either steady or casual childminding, ideally with children with additional (complex) support needs as that is most of my experience. I am a very enthusiastic, energetic, creative, and chatty person. I have a master's degree in education, with special interests in child development, especially language development as my undegrad was in (part in) linguistics.
Following my experience as ASN specialist schools and programmes, I believe very strongly in engagement and that every activity can build skills if appropriate guidance and support is provided. My preference goes to spending time outside/outdoors, as I've seen first hand the postive impact that type of engagement with surrounding and 'my world' has on children. Though I also enjoy leading indoors activities which stimulate creativity and provide sensory input. I play piano, guitar, and ukelele which has been great for leading casual music sessions for sensory musical input.
These are all examples of daytime activities, but most casual childminding I've done before has been for evening/overnight stays. I am a capable cook and I love baking. I am free most evenings as my shifts typically end in the afternoons.
My Experience
Most of my experience is with children ranged 3 - 18 with additional support needs. I started childminding casually in high school for children in the neighbourhood (with English language needs, as this was in the Netherlands where I am from). After university, I worked as a TA at an ASN specialist school. Here I lead dance club and football club (despite being rubbish at it) and I loved every second. Working at the school taught me a lot about working creatively with materials on hand to create fun, engaging, and often sensory experiences which build on skills (typically gross and fine motor as well as critical engagement and problem solving).
Starting September of 2024 I worked as a support worker for children and young people with additional support needs. This included home support as well as in community support. Community support was great as I have a lot of energy and enthusiasm, which really helped me in our trips to gravity, inoflate, the swimming pool and jungle gyms. I'm currently a support worked for adults, which doesn't include nearly as much physical activities which I why I'm looking to use my skills and experience to find work childminding with my excess time.
My Qualifications
I currently work supporting adults with learning disabilities. I have various work related qualifications, as well as a BA English language and literature and an MSc Language Education.
My Availability
My current availability varies weekly. However, I am always free Tuesday evenings and Wednesday all day. Some weekends I am free Friday - Monday and others I am unavailable, so message me to check.
