Childminder in Maidenehad (also available for babysitting)
My Summary
About Me
I am a granny with over 30 years childcare experience. I have four grown children of my own and three grandchildren.
My eldest daughter is an assistant with me, and my middle daughter is soon to be an assistant. I live at home with my husband and very lazy dog.
Caring for other people’s children is a rewarding gift; over the years I have become like another granny to many of the children, however I always listen to what the parent’s would like for their child and work with parents to continue established routines from home. The best care for a child is that which is a partnership between the carer and the parents.
My Experience
I have a wide range of experience, from newborn and helping to develop a sleep routine, to nursery children, having helped set up a small independent nursery over 25 years ago. I spent many hours helping in local schools with reading, writing and math, to helping at the local fairs with hair braiding, face painting, and games.
I care for each child based on their needs, likes and interests, also integrating this with the other children we look after.
I always wish I had trained as a teacher, as I love teaching the little ones and I really enjoy expanding my knowledge and finding new ways to help make the children's time here with me fun but also educational.
My Qualifications
I set up a small soft play group 10 years ago which still meet today; and I have taught many children to cook (many times using produce we have grown ourselves in the gardens) bake, sew and knit.
I have learnt that every child is an individual and that there is no 'one size fits all'. With four extremely 'active' children of my own, there is little that can come my way that I can't deal with, so with this in mind, everything I have ever done has always been tailored to the child/children in my care. I have looked after many children with behaviour issues and SEN children, and children with mobility issues. No child has ever felt different or been made to feel different to the all the other children in my care. The differences each child has just goes to make up the rich tapestry of the home we make for the children here.
