Natalie
Babysitter in Edinburgh
My Summary
About Me
I am currently a second-year student at the University of Edinburgh, progressing into my third year this autumn. I am 21 years old and will be turning 22 this summer. I was born and raised in Norway, and with an English father, I have grown up immersed in both Norwegian and English cultures.
At university, I study International Relations, a subject I am deeply interested in. Outside of my studies, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends, staying active, and travelling. I am particularly passionate about learning about new cultures and languages, and I enjoy challenging myself by developing new skills.
My Experience
I have several years of childcare experience, beginning with babysitting from the age of 14, caring for children from newborns to age 5. Alongside my studies, I worked as a football coach for both boys and girls, leading weekly sessions and summer camps. This role developed my leadership skills, as I was responsible for planning activities, managing matches, and supervising groups of up to 25 children, requiring strong organisation, patience, and accountability.
More recently, I provided one-on-one support for children with diverse special needs, including autism, Down syndrome, OCD, and anxiety. This experience strengthened my ability to adapt to individual needs, remain calm under pressure, and use creative problem-solving to support development. Working closely with parents, teachers, and healthcare professionals enhanced my communication skills and collaborative approach.
Overall, my experience has built resilience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting children’s wellbeing and development. I have also developed additional skills such as basic Norwegian sign language and completed training in communication, leadership, and workplace relations.
My Qualifications
My most recent role involved providing one-on-one support for children with a range of special educational needs, including autism, Down syndrome, OCD, and anxiety. Through this experience, I developed strong skills in behaviour management, de-escalation techniques, and delivering personalised support tailored to individual needs. I demonstrated adaptability, patience, and creative problem-solving in responding to a variety of complex situations.
I worked closely with parents, teachers, therapists, and medical professionals, which strengthened my communication and teamwork skills, as well as my ability to implement strategies that support both individual development and wider educational objectives. This role required a high level of resilience, responsibility, and consistency in a physically and mentally demanding environment.
In addition, I gained basic Norwegian sign language to support communication with non-verbal children and completed training in communication, leadership, and workplace relations, further enhancing my ability to provide effective and inclusive care.
I graduated from Ullern Videregående School (Oslo, Norway) with a certificate in “Specialization in General Studies” during upper secondary education. My areas of focus included law, English and psychology. I also have a football coach certificate and am currently studying for a MA Honours in International Relations.
