My Requirements

I am looking for a reliable, calm and practical household helper to support our home Monday–Thursday, 5pm–8pm (or similar).

This is a long-term, part-time role based in Tilehurst, Reading.

Main duties:
- Providing light supervision for a 12-year-old boy
- Preparing a simple evening meal
- Light household tasks (general tidying and upkeep)
- Feeding three cats

I work away from home during the week, so you will usually be the responsible adult in the house during these hours, managing the evening routine independently.

My son is independent but can be strong-willed and will sometimes test boundaries, so I am looking for someone who is calm, patient and consistent. Experience with SEN, SEMH, or similar behavioural needs would be very helpful, but not essential for the right person.

I’m looking for someone who is:

- Calm, steady and confident
- Able to set clear, fair boundaries
- Proactive and comfortable taking initiative
- Reliable and punctual

Consistency and reliability are very important in this role.

Details:
- Hours: Monday–Thursday, 5pm–8pm or similar (12 hours/week)
- Term-time and holidays
- Location: Tilehurst, Reading
- Start date: As soon as possible
- Pay: £15–£18 per hour depending on experience

I am looking for someone who will become a consistent and trusted presence in the home and is happy to take the initiative with cooking, tidying, and keeping the evening running smoothly. There may be the opportunity for additional hours by agreement (e.g. occasional later evenings or extra support during busy periods).

Optional overnight accommodation may be available if helpful, by separate arrangement. This is not a requirement of the role.

A DBS check and references will be required. A short paid trial period will be part of the process.
