My Summary
About Me
Hello and welcome to Happy Little Hunters!
My name is April Hunter. I’m a proud mum of two wonderful boys, and my journey into childminding has been shaped not only by my professional experience but also by my life as a mum. I understand how important it is to find a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment where children can truly thrive.
As a qualified teacher, I bring a strong foundation of knowledge and experience in early education. I am a practising primary school teacher, teaching Key Stage One, who is passionate about continuous provision and the importance of reading. I specialise in early reading, supporting children to develop a love of books, language, and storytelling from the very beginning. Helping little ones take those first steps into reading is something I’m deeply passionate about. Fostering a love of reading for pleasure in children ensures all children get the best start in life. Reading isn’t just a hobby. It is linked to stronger writing skills, higher school attainment and most importantly improved wellbeing and confidence.
My approach to childcare is rooted in continuous provision and the Montessori philosophy. I believe children learn best through hands-on experiences, independence, and following their own interests. I carefully create an environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and confidence, allowing children to learn at their own pace. I am passionate about play because play is how children make sense of the world. My goal is to provide a warm, caring environment where children feel happy, valued, and eager to learn. I’m passionate about offering exciting, engaging activities that spark imagination and joy, while also supporting the early years curriculum in meaningful and playful ways. Every day is thoughtfully planned to balance open ended play, modelling through play, providing adult led enhancements and stretching children through next steps.
I am forest school trained, and I have a real love for nature and outdoor learning. Spending time outside is a big part of what I offer—whether it’s exploring natural habitats, going on mini adventures to help us understand the world, or simply enjoying open-ended play in the fresh air. I believe the outdoors provides endless opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection to the world we live in.
