My Summary
About Me
I am a qualified Science Teacher and ex-Ofsted registered childminder in Loughton. I am currently in the process of re-registering now that most of my children are at school.
As a Childcare Practitioner and prior Head of Vocational Sciences, I feel it is important to create rich learning experiences through outdoor, child-led activities that build confidence, resilience and problem solving skills. We spend mornings outside in the forest, meadows or in our large garden in most weathers. Throughout the day, we enjoy a healthy, balanced diet and take time to talk about how we feel and what we enjoyed each day.
I provide opportunities for the children to have fun and learn through play and go on outings to place like Sealife Adventure, Gruffalo Trail, the seaside, local splash parks and Science Museum.
I encourage children to be kind and gentle and involve them in activities like preparing lunch, setting the table and giving them a responsibility to promote independence and respect for each other.
We have a wide range of toys, including outdoor equipment, puzzles, games and role play costumes, arts and crafts, blocks and educational books, amongst others.
A daily journal detailing the children’s activities, what they have learnt and how long they have slept etc… will be shared with parents along with photos and videos taken throughout the day.
My Experience
After completing my degree in Bsc Bioscience, I did a PGCE in Science with Physics. I went on to teach Physics in an inner London secondary school, where I stayed until 2018, after maternity leave.
Throughout my time as a teacher, I took on the additional responsibility of Head of Vocational Sciences, including Health and Social Care, Btec Science and Animal Care. I was also the lead teacher within the Science department for children with additional needs. I planned schemes of work for these groups, designed assessments and observed and managed the teaching of these subjects.
I completed a childminding course in 2018 and became an Ofsted registered childminder. After having my third child, I took time out to care for my younger children. Now that most of them are of school age, it is the right time to welcome another little person into our home where they will be loved and nurtured by the whole family.
