Sonia
Babysitter with Special Needs Experience Job in Worthing
About Me
I’m a single mum to my 8-year-old son, who has ADHD and a PDA profile. I work as an author and hairdresser, and I’m looking for occasional babysitting so I can get out to gigs, the cinema, and have a bit of time to myself.
My son is a really creative kid—he loves gaming, baking, cooking and art. He does best when he’s comfortable and engaged, and when things feel low-pressure and relaxed.
I’m looking for someone patient, calm and understanding of neurodivergent children, who’s happy to take things at his pace and build a genuine relationship with him first. A flexible, easygoing approach is really important, as he responds best when he feels he has some choice and autonomy.
My Requirements
I am looking for a childcare provider who has a calm, patient and flexible approach, ideally with understanding of neurodivergent children (particularly PDA/ADHD).
My child benefits from a low-demand, low-pressure environment, where expectations are adapted and presented gently. PDA is driven by anxiety and a strong need for autonomy, so traditional behaviour management or firm instructions can be counterproductive.
Key qualities/approach needed:
Very patient, calm and non-confrontational
Uses low-demand / low-arousal approach (reducing pressure and avoiding power struggles)
Flexible and able to adapt day-to-day (what works one day may not the next)
Uses indirect language (suggestions, choices, humour) rather than direct commands
Supports autonomy (offering choices, collaboration rather than control)
Able to build a strong, trusting relationship first
Comfortable allowing extra time, breaks, and decompression when needed
Understanding that behaviour is anxiety-based, not “naughty” or defiant
Experience with autism/PDA profile or ADHD
Familiarity with low-demand parenting approaches
This role would suit someone who is naturally gentle, creative, and able to “go with the flow” rather than follow rigid routines.
