Nursery in Epsom
Our Summary
About Us
Epsom Downs Day Nursery Ltd
We are a warm, nurturing, and unique childcare setting welcoming children from 3 months to 5 years old. Our environment is designed to support every stage of early development, creating a safe, stimulating, and child-centred experience for all children and families.
Our setting benefits from two dedicated outdoor spaces — one specially designed for children under 3 years and another for our over 3s — allowing children to explore, play, and learn outdoors every day. We are also incredibly lucky to have a farm on site, which our children love visiting regularly to learn about animals, nature, and the world around them.
Being attached to the primary school provides wonderful opportunities that enhance children’s learning and development. We regularly access the forest school area, school library, and music room, helping children build confidence and familiarity within the wider school environment.
We offer a flexible range of sessions to support the needs of families and are always happy to arrange show rounds for prospective parents who would like to learn more about our setting.
Supporting children through their transition to school is something we are passionate about. Our close partnership with the primary school allows us to provide a high standard of transition support, helping children feel secure, confident, and ready for the next stage of their education. From birth through to 11 years, we believe in creating a truly child-centred journey where every child is valued, supported, and encouraged to thrive.

I genuinely cannot recommend Epsom Downs Day Nursery highly enough. Having experienced two other nurseries locally, I can say with real confidence that this setting is a cut above.
What makes it so special is the way it balances structure with warmth and individuality. The open plan environment is a huge strength. Children aren’t confined to rigid age groups, which means they naturally build relationships across ages. This has been especially lovely for siblings and creates a much more real, social environment.
The “colour group” system (like houses at school settings) is another standout. Children come together in these groups for all meal times, which creates a strong sense of belonging and consistency. It allows siblings to spend time together and ensures familiar staff are a constant presence during key parts of the day. It feels thoughtful and intentional rather than transactional.
There is also a real focus on independence in a way that feels appropriate and encouraging rather than forced. Simple things like children serving themselves and clearing their plates help build confidence and self-sufficiency from an early age.
Most importantly, the nursery is genuinely nurturing. The staff feel like an extension of the family. They are warm, human, and deeply invested in the children. There’s none of the unnecessary rigidity you sometimes find elsewhere, and they approach each child as an individual rather than trying to fit them into a box. As a parent of two very spirited boys, this has mattered hugely. Their different personalities and needs have been understood and supported in ways that have allowed them both to thrive.
The communication home is another highlight. The reports are not just tick-box updates, they are thoughtful, personal, and clearly written by people who truly know and care about your child. The learning journey records they build over time are something we will genuinely treasure.
There is also a strong but balanced focus on preparing children for school. Activities like bringing books home to review together and early writing practice are introduced in a way that feels engaging rather than pressured, helping to build confidence naturally.
On top of all this, the setting itself offers experiences that are hard to match, from the outdoor spaces to the on-site farm, and the connection to the primary school. It creates a rich, varied environment where children can explore, learn, and grow.
If you are looking for something very rigid, overly clinical, or one-size-fits-all, this probably isn’t it. But if you want your child to be known, valued, and supported as an individual, in an environment that is warm, flexible, and full of life, then it is exceptional.
My children are happy, confident, and full of personality, and I truly believe this nursery has played a huge role in that. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
