About Me

Hi, I'm Donna and I have two children who are teenagers. I am a qualified primary school teacher with over 20 years experience. I love working with children and have decided to have a change in direction. I have just completed my registration to become a childminder so that I can offer a more bespoke and nurturing service for children aged 0-5 years. I live in Middleton, close to St. Annes Academy and Heywood.

My Experience

I have worked with children for 25 years and have been a qualified primary school teacher since 2005. During my career I have worked in every year group of Primary and had extensive experience of working with children who have English as an additional language. I have also worked with many children who have SEND and have had additional training and experience in supporting children with a range of needs in the classroom. My specialist subjects are English and Science and I have a great passion for developing communication and enquiry skills through hands on learning. This is the reason I have chosen 'The Discovery Nook' as my business name. I want to create a place where curious minds thrive.

My Qualifications

Bachelor of Education Teaching Degree with Qualified Teacher Status. I have had regular training throughout my career and completed the relevant safeguarding and Early years training specifically to childminding.
Paedatric First Aid course completed May 2026.
