My Summary
About Me
am a hard working student with September 2026 entry to the University of Durham to study English Literature, but am currently based in Bournemouth. I have A Levels in English Literature, Religious Studies and Psychology, as well as GCSEs in Maths, English Literature and Language, Drama, French, RS, Biology, History and Photography.
I am a bubbly, enthusiastic 18 (going on 19) year old girl, with passions for sport, drama, writing, and adventure. I would say I am confident and outgoing, however, I would hope that is accompanied by a deep awareness of when this side of me needs to be toned down or put into perspective for the benefit of those around me. My dreams are centred around becoming a major director or screenwriter, a psycho-theraputic counsellor, or a primary school teacher.
When it comes to discipline, I draw the line clearly and firmly but fairly. My biggest 'bug bear' when it comes to childcare is discipline that creates shame or embarrassment- I am very aware that children need to understand when something is not right, and I maintain that, but I am a big believer that shame is a really damaging emotion to foster, and would therefore aim to never instil that into someone. Perhaps most importantly, I think it is so important to maintain consistent standards so that the children are always comfortable that they know where they stand with me and with the parents/caregivers; my priority, therefore, is to align with you on your understanding of right and wrong so as to provide a consistent instruction from authority figures.
I am conscious that my application states I will be a student in September. I want to assure you that my priority will be reliability and flexibility, with work remaining my prime concern.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.
Best wishes,
Tilly Wheeler
My Experience
I have work experience in multiple educational institutions, primarily as a teaching assistant for a Year 3 class and a combined Year 1 and 2 class. I am, therefore, equipped with a full and updated DBS check. I am passionate about nurturing children with compassion that fuels their energy and drive for learning. I am an energetic, enthusiastic individual that is always keen to learn and grow myself, and enjoy being challenged in such ways.
I am the oldest of three, my brother is 16, and my sister is 13 currently. I grew up as the 'neighbourhood nanny', running a creche from age 12, as looking after children is something I have always enjoyed and found plays to my strengths. I have completed first aid courses and consider myself a competent cook, and would therefore be more than happy to look after children for extended periods of time. I have a maternal, caring nature, and can't wait to have my own children one day. I would consider myself patient, reliable, creative, and loving.
I have been babysitting for almost 7 years now, and have taken care of children during evening outings, day trips, full-day stints, and accompanied on outings. I have become very close with all of the families I have been lucky enough to play a role in, and I would hope yours would be no different. I am no stranger to the importance of family, and would prioritise a lack of disruption to the family dynamic.
My Qualifications
I have no official qualifications when referring to higher education, however I have a wide selection of experience, discussed in the above section. I aim to secure my PGCE once I have completed my Undergraduate degree.
My Availability
I will be a student of Durham University moving in late September. This will mean that my availability will be centred around a lecture timetable- however, I want to assure you that my priority will lie with you and with your children when it comes to all other aspects of student life. I am hard-working, and keen to show dedication and loyalty to my employer, and to the children in my care. I have a full driving license and the capacity to have my own car, and will therefore be completely prepared to be where you need be to be, when you need me there. I am conscious my availability is less than ideal for some, and would therefore be really grateful for the opportunity to discuss this with you to see if I can construct a plan- I am keen to work around student life to provide you with the services you require.
