Babysitter Job in Birmingham
About Me
We are a busy, loving family with two young boys. My oldest son, Benjamin (2.5), is autistic and very energetic. He loves being outdoors, anything with wheels, and thrives on routine and familiarity. My youngest son, Charlie (1.5), is your typical toddler approaching the “terrible twos”—curious, adventurous, and always on the go!
The boys get on well, but like most siblings their age there are also plenty of squabbles. Our home can be lively, noisy, and a little chaotic at times.
Both boys attend nursery for 15 hours a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8am–1pm). My husband, Sam, works full-time as a floor layer, and I am a freelance event planner working from a home office.
My Requirements
I’m looking for a babysitter to help during my busiest working periods. As an event planner, my workload can vary significantly throughout the year and I can have particularly busy periods with around 65-hour working weeks. My husband, Sam, also works full time (around 50 hours a week), so flexibility is appreciated. We will always aim to provide as much notice as possible, and reliability and good communication are very important to us.
I’ll be working from my home office, but I need to be able to fully focus on work, so I’m looking for someone who can confidently take charge of the boys and care for them independently during that time.
The boys are also cared for by their nanny (their grandmother) outside of nursery hours, but as she is understandably finding it a lot to manage both of them together as they have become older and more active, we are now looking for additional support during my busiest working periods.
Both boys are still young and are currently in nappies, so the role will involve play, supervising activities, preparing simple snacks and meals, supporting their day-to-day needs, and carrying out nappy changes as required.
Mealtimes look quite different for each child. Benjamin is a selective eater who relies on a small range of safe foods and generally prefers snacks to larger meals. Charlie is much less selective and enjoys most foods offered to him.
The boys love being outdoors and we have a fully fenced garden for them to play in. While there is a park across the road, care would normally be within our home and garden unless agreed in advance. Benjamin does require closer supervision when outdoors as he can be prone to eloping, so we would only expect outdoor trips if the babysitter feels confident managing this.
I’m hoping to find someone warm, reliable and energetic who enjoys working with young children, is understanding of additional needs, and can confidently manage two busy toddlers. A good sense of humour and the ability to cope with a bit of chaos would definitely be a bonus!
