About Me

Hi,

I’m looking for childcare for my 5-year-old son and wanted to see if this is something you’d be comfortable with.

I’m a mum of two children and, professionally, I’m a registered childminder and qualified Early Years Teacher with around 13–14 years of experience working with children.

My son has hyperinsulinism, which means he can sometimes have low blood sugar levels. He wears a monitor on his arm that automatically checks his blood sugar levels and sends the readings to an app. I’d help you download the app onto your phone and show you exactly how everything works.

He also has a finger-prick monitor available if needed, although this is very rarely necessary because the arm monitor does most of the work. His condition is much better than it used to be, and he has largely outgrown it. As long as he eats regularly and doesn’t miss meals, he is usually absolutely fine.

I’d also like to reassure you that this isn’t something that should cause concern or require constant monitoring. The sensor continuously tracks his blood sugar levels automatically, so there is no need to keep checking the app throughout the day. The device will sound an alert if his blood sugar starts to become low.

If an alert does occur, it is usually simply a reminder that he needs something to eat or drink. I will also have the app connected to my own phone while he is in your care, so I can see his readings as well and can be contacted immediately if needed.

Because I won’t be with him, I’d just like someone who is happy to be aware of the monitor and let me know if there are any concerns. Before confirming anything, I’d be happy to meet with you and show you exactly how the monitor works, what his normal readings look like, what the alerts mean, and what to do if his blood sugar drops. It’s all very straightforward, and I’ll make sure you feel completely comfortable and confident before any childcare arrangement begins.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.

My son has a medical condition called hyperinsulinism, which means he can sometimes have low blood sugar levels. His condition is stable, well managed, and much improved from when he was younger. Full guidance, training, and support will always be provided.

He wears a monitor on his arm that continuously tracks his glucose levels and automatically sends the readings to an app. The monitor does the work itself, so there is no need for constant checking. If his blood sugar starts to become low, the device will sound an alert. In most cases, this simply means he needs something to eat or drink.

I will also have the app connected to my own phone while he is in your care, allowing me to see his readings as well and provide support if needed. He also has a finger-prick glucose testing machine, which is the same type used by people with diabetes, if you would prefer to use it or would like to double-check a reading.

This is not something that should cause concern, and as long as he has regular meals, snacks, and drinks, he is usually absolutely fine. Before any childcare arrangement begins, I will show you exactly how the monitor works, explain what his normal readings look like, and make sure you feel completely comfortable and confident with everything.

Experience with medical or additional needs is welcomed but not essential.
