We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and motivated Mentor to join a bespoke Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) package, supporting a wonderful 5-year-old boy with a diagnosis of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference by delivering a highly personalised, play-based educational programme that supports communication, learning, confidence, and overall development.
About the Role
The successful candidate will work on a one-to-one basis, planning and delivering engaging, child-led learning activities that reflect the child's interests, strengths, and individual needs. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach to supporting the child's education and development.
Essential Criteria
• Level 4 Teaching Qualification (or equivalent).
• Proven experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one before employment.
• Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
• A patient, creative, flexible, and nurturing approach to supporting children.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with professionals and the child's family.
Desirable Criteria
• Experience supporting children with speech, language, and communication needs.
• Knowledge or experience of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
• Experience working within EOTAS, alternative provision, or personalised education packages.
While experience with CAS is desirable, it is not essential. Full training and ongoing guidance will be provided by the child's Speech and Language Therapist.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver a personalised, play-based curriculum that supports the child's educational, communication, and social development.
• Implement communication strategies and therapy recommendations under the guidance of the Speech and Language Therapist.
• Work collaboratively with professionals involved in the child's education, including Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Monitor, record, and report on progress, adapting learning approaches as required.
• Foster a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment that promotes confidence, independence, and wellbeing.
We Are Looking For Someone Who Is:
• Passionate about inclusive education and child-centred learning.
• Calm, empathetic, and able to build trusting relationships.
• Creative in adapting learning through play and meaningful experiences.
• Committed to working collaboratively with professionals and families to achieve the best possible outcomes for the child.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to have a genuine and lasting impact on a child's educational journey through a highly individualised and supportive approach.
To apply, please send your CV and a covering letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are interested in this role.
