Zak
Private Tutor in Harrow
My Summary
About Me
I’m Zak — a qualified primary school teacher specialising in KS2 Maths and English, with five years of experience and expert SEND training.
I don’t do one-size-fits-all. Every session is built around your child — their gaps, their pace, their way of learning. I’m especially experienced with children who find school hard, including those with ADHD or ASD.

My Experience
I currently work as a SEND Art Teacher at a primary school in Wembley, where I lead a small, specialist nurture group of six pupils with complex, EHCP-level needs. My caseload includes pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD, social, emotional and mental health difficulties, and significant communication and interaction needs. In this role I design and deliver bespoke, highly differentiated lessons that balance structure with creativity, and I work closely with SENCos, EHCPs, and families to ensure each child’s provision is appropriately targeted and regularly reviewed.
Prior to my current role I accumulated five years of broader primary teaching experience, developing strong subject knowledge and pedagogy across the KS2 curriculum, with a particular focus on Maths and English.
1-to-1 Tutoring Experience
Alongside my school role, I have provided private 1-to-1 tutoring to KS2 pupils in Maths and English. My tutoring practice is highly personalised: I begin each new pupil relationship with a diagnostic assessment to identify gaps and misconceptions, then design a structured programme of sessions that builds systematically toward the child’s targets. I create bespoke interactive resources — including games, visual tools, and scaffolded practice activities — so that every session is engaging and purposeful rather than generic. I maintain regular communication with parents throughout, sharing progress updates and strategies they can use at home to consolidate learning between sessions.
Teaching Methodology
My approach is rooted in evidence-based practice. I draw on principles from cognitive load theory — breaking new content into small, manageable steps and building carefully on prior knowledge before introducing new concepts. I use retrieval practice and spaced repetition to strengthen long-term retention, and I use frequent low-stakes formative assessment to check for understanding in real time rather than waiting for errors to compound.
For learners with SEND, I apply a strength-based, nurturing model: I build trust before academic challenge, use visual supports and multisensory approaches, keep instructions clear and predictable, and scaffold tasks explicitly before gradually reducing support. I am experienced in recognising when a learner’s barriers to learning are cognitive, emotional, or environmental — and adjusting accordingly.
For higher-ability learners, I extend through depth and complexity rather than acceleration — encouraging mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and the ability to explain and justify thinking.
