Personal Assistant Position
Rate of pay: £14.04 per hour.
This position is funded through Direct Payments. The successful applicant will be employed as a Personal Assistant to provide regular support for a non-verbal autistic child, with weekend hours and additional hours available during school holidays.
We are looking for a personal assistant to support a non-verbal autistic young boy with complex sensory needs. He enjoys a calm and quiet environment and is most comfortable at home, where he can relax and follow his usual routine. He needs someone who is kind, patient, understanding and able to build a trusting relationship over time.
Term time: 4 hours per week (usually weekends : Saturday or Sunday)
• School holidays: 8 hours per week ( 1 Saturday or Sunday afternoon 4h + 1 Thursday evening 4h)
• Additional babysitting hours may occasionally be available outside the regular Direct Payments schedule. These additional hours may be offered by the family, subject to mutual agreement, and will be paid separately by the family at £15.00 per hour.
As a Personal Assistant, you will provide flexible support to help him enjoy meaningful activities and
maintain his wellbeing.
You will assist with:
• Sensory activities and community outings when possible
• Ensuring his safety at all times
• Assist with personal care tasks.
My Requirements
Experience supporting autistic children or children with additional needs
• Understanding of sensory needs and non-verbal communication
• Experience of supporting children with routines and structured activities
1-to-1 support and supervision
• Emotional regulation support and maintaining a calm environment
• Personal care, including nappy changing
• Encouraging engagement through suitable activities and community outings when possible
• Building a positive and trusting relationship
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
• Patience and empathy – able to respond calmly and understandingly to the child’s needs.
• Strong communication skills – able to use clear, simple language and adapt
communication style.
• Ability to build trust and rapport – developing a positive, consistent relationship.
Additional Requirements
• Female PA preferred (Equality Act 2010 applies)
• Enhanced DBS required
• Driving licence/access to a vehicle preferred but not essential
