About Me

Hi, I’m Rowan. I’m a trainee science teacher with over 10 years’ experience working with children and young people with SEND, SEMH needs, autism, ADHD, anxiety, communication differences and behaviour that may be misunderstood by others ages 4-19. I also have extensive experience with mainstream students ages 4-16. I am currently working with Reception, year 1 and 2. I work at summer activity camps for ages 4 - 12.

I offer calm, reliable evening/weekend childcare in the child’s own home, especially for families who may need someone more experienced than a typical babysitter. I’m confident supporting children who are autistic, non-speaking/non-verbal, selectively/situationally mute, demand-avoidant, anxious, sensory-seeking or sensory-sensitive. I’m patient, low-pressure and happy to follow family routines closely so children feel safe, understood and respected.

My approach is gentle but boundaried. I focus on regulation, communication and trust rather than forcing interaction. I’m very comfortable using children’s interests to build connection, whether that’s Minecraft, gaming, science, animals, drawing, trains, facts, stories or just quietly existing nearby until they feel ready.

I have a background in SEMH/SEND education and am currently completing mainstream teacher training, so safeguarding, routines, emotional regulation and clear communication with parents are all important to me. I’m also neurodivergence-aware and understand that behaviour is often communication.

I’m available for evening babysitting, weekend support and respite-style care in the Southampton/Eastleigh/Winchester/Hedhe End area. I’m happy to chat first so we can discuss your child’s needs, routines, communication style and what would help them feel comfortable.

My Experience

I have over 10 years’ experience working with children and young people aged 4–16 in SEND and SEMH/mainstream education settings.

During this time, I worked in teaching roles within specialist provision, supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, anxiety, communication differences, sensory needs, emotional regulation difficulties, demand avoidance, trauma backgrounds and behaviour that can often be misunderstood.

I have supported children across a wide range of needs, including non-speaking/non-verbal pupils, selective/situational mutism, children with significant anxiety, pupils who struggle with transitions, and children who need calm, consistent adults around them. I am confident using routines, interests, low-pressure communication and regulation strategies to help children feel safe and understood.

I am now completing teacher training so I can become a fully qualified teacher and continue supporting neurodivergent children, particularly in mainstream settings where the right understanding and adjustments can make a huge difference.

My Qualifications

I have a BSc (Hons) in Natural Sciences and am currently completing teacher training in science/chemistry. I have also completed a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course in Chemistry.

I have over 10 years’ experience working in SEND/SEMH education settings (residential and day settings) and have completed regular safeguarding and school-based training as part of my education roles.

I am currently working towards full qualified teacher status, with a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent children and young people in mainstream and specialist settings.

My Availability

At the moment, I am mainly available for evening babysitting and weekend support in the child’s own home. I am happy to discuss regular evenings, occasional babysitting, respite-style support, or one-off cover for events/parents’ evenings out.

My availability may increase during school holidays, so please feel free to message if you are looking for daytime or longer holiday support.
