Angela
Part Time Nanny Job in Penarth
About Me
We're a small family of three (soon to be!) living in Sully, near Penarth. We're expecting our first baby, a little girl, at the end of July 2026, and we also have two friendly house cats who mostly mind their own business.
We're completely new to this. Everything we know about parenting so far comes from books, classes, and conversations, so we know that some of our hopes and ideas may shift once we're actually in it. With that said, we're drawn to an attachment parenting approach and want to be responsive to our baby's needs. We'd love to find someone who leans that way too, but we also know we have a lot to learn and we're open to guidance from someone with real experience.
We hope to keep our little one screen-free and engage with her through play, talking, singing, and outdoor time, but we're realistic that we won't have it all figured out from day one. We'd love for our daughter to have some exposure to the Welsh language too. If you speak Welsh (even conversationally), that would be a wonderful bonus, though it's absolutely not essential.
We'll be around the house for much of the time, especially in the early months (I'll be on maternity till around April and my partner for two months and then we both work a lot from home). We're looking for someone we can build a trusting, communicative relationship with and whose experience we can lean on as we find our feet.
My Requirements
We don't know for certain yet as we'll have to see how we cope when baby arrives but here are our initial thoughts on what we might need.
Role: Flexible, ad-hoc nanny for a newborn/infant (from late July 2026 onwards)
Type of support: We're looking for someone who can be available on an occasional, on-and-off basis. Perhaps a day or an evening here and there when we need a breather, and possibly some overnight support. We genuinely don't know exactly what we'll need yet, as it depends on how things go and how we cope as new parents. We'd love to find someone we can call on when we need extra hands, without the pressure of a fixed schedule. We anticipate needing more regular support from around April/May 2027 when I return to work, but that may change too.
Location: Sully. We're likely to be around the house, so transport flexibility is possible. Ideally, you'll be a driver, but if you're very local or on a good bus route, that's fine too. We may be able to help with getting here if you're local or on a bus route.
Live-out only.
Feeding: I'm planning to breastfeed, but we're aware that things don't always go to plan. Comfort with supporting breastfeeding (and eventually bottle feeds, expressed milk, and weaning) is important, and patience with us figuring it all out would be appreciated.
Essentials (non-negotiables):
Experience caring for newborns and infants under 12 months
A responsive, gentle caregiving approach (no "cry it out" methods)
Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service preferred)
Valid paediatric first aid certification (including infant CPR)
Non-smoker
Comfortable around cats
Checkable references from families with infants
Nice to have (but not essential):
Welsh speaker (even conversational)
Maternity nurse or newborn-specific qualifications
Willingness to do occasional overnight shifts
Light duties: Primarily childcare, but flexibility to help with baby-related tasks (sterilising, baby laundry, tidying after activities) would be appreciated.
Start date: Potentially around August for some ad-hoc support. We'd love to start building a relationship before baby arrives or shortly after, with a view to more regular hours from around April/May 2027. But honestly, we're working all of this out as we go.
Rate: Negotiable, in the region of £12 to £16 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Overnight rates to be discussed.
