About Me

I am an 18-year-old who is enthusiastic, friendly, and enjoys making the most of every opportunity. As an only child, I have always been very close to my family and have grown up as the oldest of my three younger cousins, which has helped me become responsible, caring, and supportive. At a young age, I realised that babysitting and working as a nanny is what I have always wanted to do, as I have always enjoyed caring for children and naturally taken on that role within my family.

My Experience

I cared for a baby from the age of 6 months until he turned 1 year old while his mother worked night shifts for the NHS. During this time, I was responsible for providing a safe, caring, and nurturing environment, ensuring all of his daily needs were met. My duties included preparing and feeding bottles and meals, changing nappies, maintaining his sleep routine, playing with him through age-appropriate activities to support his development, and keeping him entertained in a stimulating and caring environment. I also ensured he was always clean, comfortable, and happy while communicating regularly with his mother about his routine and wellbeing. I thoroughly enjoyed building a strong bond with him and watching him reach important developmental milestones. My role came to an end when he moved into his father’s full-time care, meaning childcare was no longer required.

Following this, the same family welcomed another child into their lives, and I was trusted to care for him from a young age. He was diagnosed with autism and was non-verbal, which required me to provide patient, understanding, and individualised care to meet his needs. I regularly cared for him overnight while his mother worked, ensuring he was safe, comfortable, and settled throughout the night. In the mornings, I prepared him for the day, helped him get dressed, encouraged his personal hygiene where appropriate, prepared his breakfast, and took him to nursery.Alongside his daily care, I focused on supporting his development and emotional wellbeing. When he first came into my care, he found it difficult to interact with others, struggled with sharing, had a very limited diet, and found it challenging to follow a consistent routine. Through patience, encouragement, and creating a structured and predictable environment, I helped him become more comfortable with routines, supported him in developing his social skills, and gently encouraged positive eating habits. I always adapted my approach to suit his individual needs, ensuring he felt safe, understood, and supported at all times. Caring for him strengthened my understanding of supporting children with additional needs and reinforced the importance of consistency, compassion, and communication. Unfortunately, my role came to an end when his father was awarded full custody, meaning my childcare support was no longer required.

In late 2020, while the family’s first child was still in the womb, I was asked to become their regular babysitter. Being trusted with their childcare before their daughter was even born allowed me to build an incredibly rewarding and trusting relationship with both the parents and their children. I was responsible for caring for their daughter while her parents managed their businesses, attended family events, went to the gym, or enjoyed date nights. As a result, most of my babysitting took place during the evenings and overnight.
From the time she was a baby, my responsibilities included preparing and feeding bottles, changing nappies, bathing her, settling her to sleep, following her bedtime routine, comforting her when she woke during the night, engaging her in age-appropriate play to support her development, and ensuring she was always safe, happy, and well cared for. I also kept the parents updated on her routine and wellbeing whenever they returned home.
In late 2022, the family welcomed their second daughter. During this time, I continued caring for their eldest while gradually taking on the responsibility of caring for their youngest as she grew. I have had the privilege of being there for many of the girls’ biggest milestones and first experiences. One of my proudest memories is helping their youngest daughter take her very first steps. Watching both girls grow and develop over the years has been one of the most rewarding parts of my childcare experience.
Now that the girls are approaching six and four years old, I continue to babysit them whenever their parents need me. During my time with them, we enjoy playing dress-up, watching their favourite films, reading stories, completing arts and crafts, and chatting about their day at school, nursery, and the activities they have taken part in. I prepare and serve their evening meals, encourage good table manners, help them tidy away after dinner, assist with washing, brushing their teeth, changing into pyjamas, and follow their established bedtime routine, with both children usually settled by around 7:30 pm.
I remain at the family home until their parents return, which is typically between 10:00 pm and 12:30 am. If either child wakes during the night, I comfort and reassure them, helping them settle back to sleep so they continue to feel safe and secure. Over the years, I have developed an incredibly close bond with both girls, and they have truly become like family to me. Caring for them has been a privilege, and I have loved watching them grow into the wonderful children they are today. This role will sadly come to an end in August 2026, as the family are relocating to Dubai to begin a new chapter in their lives.

My Qualifications

During my time at Intake Primary School in Year 6 (2018–2019), I was selected to become a Playground Friend, a role that was awarded to pupils who demonstrated kindness, responsibility, and the ability to support younger children. This role allowed me to spend my lunchtime in the KS1 playground (Reception to Year 2), where I organised activities, encouraged inclusive play, and joined in with games chosen by the children. My aim was to ensure every child felt included, happy, and confident during their break times, particularly those who may have been shy or struggled to make friends.
Throughout this experience, I built strong relationships with many of the younger children and quickly became someone they looked forward to seeing each day. One child in particular formed a very close bond with me. She would often seek me out during lunchtime, and we spent time playing games and talking together. Our friendship had such a positive impact that she told her parents about me, and one afternoon her mother approached me after school to personally thank me for making her daughter’s playtimes so much happier. She explained that seeing me during lunch had become the highlight of her daughter’s school day, which was incredibly rewarding to hear at such a young age and something I have always remembered. Although I no longer care for her in a school setting, I still occasionally see her, and it is lovely to see how much she has grown. This experience confirmed my passion for working with children and showed me how meaningful kindness, patience, and encouragement can be in helping a child feel happy, valued, and included.

As part of my education, I also completed work experience at Jack and Jill’s Nursery, where I gained valuable hands-on experience working with children of different ages in a professional early years setting. During my placement, I supported nursery practitioners with supervising children throughout the day, setting up and taking part in educational and creative activities, reading stories, encouraging learning through play, and helping to create a safe, fun, and engaging environment. I also assisted with snack and mealtimes, tidying play areas, supporting children with their personal hygiene where appropriate, and ensuring their wellbeing and safety at all times. This experience gave me a greater understanding of the importance of teamwork, communication, safeguarding, and promoting children’s learning and development within an early years setting. It reinforced my passion for working with children and strengthened my confidence in providing nurturing, patient, and attentive care to support each child’s individual needs.
