My Experience

Whilst growing up I I have babysat for my siblings since I was 16, they are now 8,9 and 3 and I still babysit daily for them. Some of my 11 experience
1:1 with a Down syndrome child which included makaton communication/ focusing on building independence through clear routines, working with other teachers to meet individual needs outlined in IEP.
Working in a behavioural unit, working with 5 students each child different with personalised strategies. Using different de-escalation techniques learned from Team Teach course. Guiding child to quiet room, using strategies such as time outside to reflect. Assisting the teacher in lessons.
1:1 to a child who was adopted and had behavioural problems, he was in year 3 and would get into many fights. So with what I learned from Team Team course I would observe and guide aside when needed in challenging situations.
I would do daily check ins in the morning, after break, after lunch and before home time. Building a relationship and noticing his triggers such as if he had a good morning at home or not or if he lost a football game.
Running breakfast club alongside another TA. This would include supervision and care greeting each child by the door. Activities and organising. Supervising football each morning, taking the register and filing attendance records each morning, communicating with parents about allergies.
Working 1:l with a child who had recent trauma. This would mean supporting
the individual building trust and making them feel safe. I would support their development, behaviour and learning. Always making safe environment to regulate emotions, sometimes Christmas would be a hard time for the individual so we would take trips out the classroom to pet the school bunnv.
Always giving choices to the individual and being sensitive.
Working at a holiday club for the Welsh schools in Newport. Locusing on non-curriculum activities, getting to know new children everyday. always risk assessing, managing the different age groups from age 5-10.
Health and social care course in college, this provided me with in depth knowledge of human development, well-being and support systems enabling me to understand diverse student needs.
Working 11 with 2 diabetes twins, both at different stages of diabetes. one diagnosed and had a phone to monitor glucose levels and other in process being diagnosed which meant delivering glocuse with injection daily. With both I would monitor glucose levels through day, give the right amount of insulin on phone and injection and give depo medications when needed
