Vanessa
Babysitter in London
My Summary
About Me
Hello parents!
My name is Vanessa.
I’m a warm, caring and reliable person with a genuine passion for working with children and young people. I currently work as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school and have previously worked as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school. Alongside my experience in education, I also have 3 years of babysitting experience, caring for children of different ages and supporting families with their day-to-day routines.
I come from a close family and live with my mum and three younger siblings. There is a significant age gap between me and my siblings, so I’ve naturally taken on a caring role throughout their lives, from when they were babies through childhood and now into their teenage years. I’ve also regularly helped care for younger children within my extended family, so looking after children has always been a very natural part of my life.
I would describe myself as patient, nurturing, friendly and approachable. I love getting to know children individually, learning about their personalities and interests and finding activities that they genuinely enjoy. I’m equally happy helping with homework and reading, getting creative with arts and crafts, baking, playing games, going to the park or simply having a chat and hearing all about their day.
Through working in schools, I’ve developed a calm and understanding approach to children’s behaviour and emotions. I believe it’s really important for children to feel listened to, respected and comfortable with the person looking after them, while still having clear and consistent boundaries.
I’m also very organised, responsible and confident using my initiative. I understand that every family has its own routines, values and way of doing things, and I’m always happy to follow the approach parents already have in place.
Working with children is something I genuinely love, and my long-term goal is to become a qualified teacher. I would love to find a family where I can build a positive relationship with both the children and parents and provide reliable, caring and fun support.
My Experience
I have 3 years of babysitting experience, alongside professional experience working with children in both primary and secondary education and extensive hands-on experience caring for younger children within my family.
Through babysitting, I have cared for children of different ages and supported families with their everyday childcare needs. My responsibilities have included preparing meals and snacks, helping with homework and reading, playing games, planning age-appropriate activities, supervising children at home and outdoors, helping with bath and bedtime routines and making sure children are safe, happy and settled while in my care.
I currently work as a Teaching Assistant in a secondary school, where I work closely with young people and support their academic, social and emotional development. A significant part of my role involves supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including children with EHCPs and pupils who require additional support with their learning, behaviour, communication or emotional wellbeing.
I provide both one-to-one and classroom support and adapt my approach depending on the individual child. I have experience helping children regulate their emotions, de-escalating challenging situations, encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils build their confidence and independence. I understand that every child communicates their needs differently, so I always try to approach situations with patience, empathy and consistency.
An important part of my role is also building trusting relationships with the young people I support. I really value being someone they feel comfortable approaching when they are struggling, while also encouraging them to develop their own independence and problem-solving skills.
Before my current position, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school for around a year, which gave me valuable professional experience working with younger children. Having worked across both primary and secondary education has allowed me to understand how children’s needs, communication and interests develop as they get older.
Between my babysitting, school and family experience, I’m comfortable caring for children across a wide range of ages, personalities and needs. Most importantly, I aim to create an environment where children feel safe, happy, understood and able to be themselves.
My Qualifications
I hold a degree in Business Management and Law and currently work professionally within a secondary school. I have also previously worked within a primary school, giving me practical experience across different age groups and educational settings.
I am First Aid trained and, through my work in education, have developed strong practical knowledge of safeguarding, child wellbeing, SEN support, behaviour management, emotional regulation and supporting children’s learning and development.
I have experience working closely with children with Special Educational Needs and pupils with EHCPs, providing individualised academic and emotional support according to their needs.
Working within schools has also given me a strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities, confidentiality and professional boundaries when caring for children. I understand the importance of communicating effectively with parents and other professionals and always putting a child’s safety and wellbeing first.
My Availability
I currently work in a secondary school Monday to Friday and finish at 4pm. I am therefore mainly looking for after-school childcare and babysitting opportunities and can generally be available from around 4:30pm onwards on weekdays. I’m happy to discuss individual family needs and can also consider evening babysitting where needed.
