Michelle
Part Time Nanny Job in Oxford
About Me
We are Michelle and Chris, an international family living in Summertown, Oxford, with our 5.5-month-old baby boy. We have both been in the UK for several years and enjoy travelling, reading, being outdoors and staying active.
As we don't have family nearby, we are looking for someone who can become a trusted and caring part of our son's life. We value someone who is warm, attentive and responsive, and who enjoys spending time with babies and helping them explore and develop at their own pace. We are hoping to raise our son in a supportive, curious and multilingual household, and would particularly welcome someone who speaks another language.
We are hoping to find someone who will feel comfortable becoming part of our household over time. We are still working out exactly what our longer-term childcare arrangements will look like, so we are open to finding the right person first and seeing how the arrangement develops.
My Requirements
We are currently looking for flexible, part-time childcare for our 5.5-month-old son, initially around 2–3 days per week, e.g. a few afternoons each week. We are hoping to meet people during August/September and would ideally start an arrangement from around mid-October.
We are open to a nanny or experienced babysitter and are still exploring what combination of childcare will work best for our family. We are flexible about days and hours and happy to discuss what might work well for both sides.
Initially, Michelle will be at home while the childcare is taking place, and when she returns to work later this autumn she will continue to work from home. We are therefore looking for someone who is comfortable caring for a baby independently while a parent is also working from home.
The main responsibilities would include:
- Feeding and bottles
- Nappies and changing
- Supporting naps and helping us establish a consistent, age-appropriate rhythm and routine
- Helping him gradually learn to settle and sleep independently, using a responsive approach that fits with our preferences
- Taking him outdoors for walks and fresh air
- Light baby-related laundry and tidying
- Helping with solids and food preparation as he gets a little older
We would particularly value someone with experience caring for young babies, who is confident with infant routines and sleep, and who takes a warm, responsive approach. Infant/paediatric first aid certification, a current DBS check and good references are important to us. Early-years qualifications are welcome but aren't necessarily essential if someone has strong relevant experience.
We live in Summertown, which is very walkable and well served by public transport, and we have parking available. There is currently no need to drive our son anywhere.
We would love to find someone who speaks another language, as we are hoping to create a multilingual environment for our son.
We are a non-smoking household and would prefer someone who does not smoke. We also keep screens to a minimum and are not currently using 'cry it out' sleep methods, so we'd like to find someone whose approach is broadly aligned with this.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone warm, reliable and caring who will enjoy getting to know our son and become a trusted part of his life.
