Looking for a Weekend Special Needs Nanny
About Me
About Our Family
We're a warm and welcoming family with two wonderful children, aged 9 and 6. We strive to create a happy, loving home and are looking for a Sennie with a real passion for life who wants to become part of our family — someone ready to take charge of our beautiful girl, keep her entertained, and throw themselves wholeheartedly into the special needs community.
About Solana
Solana is 9 years old and an extremely happy little girl who melts everyone's heart. She's easy-going, adores attention, and is highly sociable — being around other children is vital to her, despite being non-verbal.
She loves movement-based activities, especially swimming, trampolining, and swings. She's our little thrill-seeker and lights up at amusement parks, loving every ride!
Solana has a rare genetic disorder called GRIN2A, which presents with global developmental delay, non-verbal communication, severe epilepsy and uses a wheelchair. Her epilepsy can be well-controlled for extended periods, but occasionally flares unpredictably and has sometimes required hospital stays.
Solana attends an outstanding specialist school and receives all her therapies there, though we're looking for someone happy to take her to private therapy sessions on Saturday mornings.
Daily Care
We're working towards independent feeding, but Solana currently needs to be spoon-fed. She's not fussy about flavours but sometimes needs gentle encouragement to eat.
We're also working on toileting — she understands what to do when placed on the toilet but can't yet communicate the need to go, so she remains in nappies.
My Requirements
We're looking for an experienced Sennie (special needs nanny) to care for our gorgeous little girl, Solana.
Essential requirements:
Experience caring for children with epilepsy, including confidence managing seizures and administering medication
Full, valid driving licence (nanny car provided)
What we're looking for:
A vibrant, fun-loving nanny with a great sense of humour who's passionate about planning engaging activities to support Solana's development. You'll organise play dates and outings, and ideally enjoy swimming — Solana loves the water, and it's wonderful therapy for her.
The role is a physically demanding role and we require a Sennie who is confident and happy to lift Solana into her feeding chair, car seat, wheelchair, bath, etc. She is very slight (18kg's) but please note this role requires lifting.
We also travel fairly regularly, we would ideally like a Sennie that is happy to do occasional Proxy Nanny care working very closely with our week day permanent nanny. Occasional babysitting would be required and from time to time this would include our little boy (aged 6) too.
